I've noticed glare from the HUD screen on my windshield glass when traveling north (sun directly behind me) in fall/winter/spring months. It wasn't an issue in the summer, but the lower the sun is in the sky, the worse the glare gets. I'm sure it's refraction through the windshield reflecting on the HUD screen and back to the windshield. Is there a TSB or anything that can be done to diminish it? It gets bad enough that I have to wear sunglasses.

I had a similar problem when the sun was low and behind me, the mirrors self dimmed which is a great feature. I put on sunglasses which worked to make the display clearer but mine are polarized and if I move slightly I completely loose the display, non polarized are OK. I also tinted the rear door and hatch windows which helped and driving with the sunroof blind closed can be beneficial.

There is a TSB for this....... It calls for strapping a beach umbrella to the back of the roof so the whole car is in the shade. LOL!

Sadly nothing you can do other than throw a black towel over the dash to cover it up completely or drive the other direction.

Poor design then. You should never see glare off a HUD. And bad on Kia for not having a fix.

is there any way you can get a photo of this glare? I dont get anything like that on my HUD

Hi,
The glare is on the windscreen not from the HUD content and only occurs when the sun is very low and shining through the hatch glass. Living in he UK you don't often get sun so cannot take an image!!
The intensity of the sunlight tends to override the illumination but can be made better by wearing sunglasses (not polarized).
Not really a defect just a "characteristic" in the right circumstances.

G is correct, it's glare on the B-surface of the windshield, bouncing off the HUD screen. I beg to differ though, I don't think it's light shining through the backlite. When I see the glare the sun is not that low on the horizon. It appears when I'm driving due north at noon between mid-october (now) and sometime in March.

Hi,
For some reason my last reply came through as G-765259, probably my fault as not really tech savvy.
I presume you are in North America, from your last post I presume that the sun is in front of you and shining on the HUD clear cover and that is reflecting into the windscreen. I have not encountered this situation but am driving tomorrow and, if there is any sun, I will try to replicate it.

I've never seen anything when the sun is lower on the horizon but when high in the sky on a hot sunny day (as far as we get them in the UK) I've seen a bright line reflected onto the windscreen and when I remember I leave a cloth over the HUD when I leave the car parked on such a day.

Not sure if it would cause a problem but you could feel the brighter line was hotter on the windscreen, but I'd expect issues in hotter sunnier places than the UK if they did happen.

Is anyone able to capture an image of this "issue"

Does it occur so rarely it can't be photographed?
