Crumby old school dealership. $5k markup. No test drives allowed unless you can agree to a price and let them run your credit.

Welcome aboard, @punkndisorderly! Thank you for signing up! Wow, so not only do you need to let them run your credit - you need to agree on a price before getting a test drive! Haha. That's ridiculous. What a joke. Anyway... You should just agree to the price and tell them you have your bank handling the credit, take the test drive, and buy the Stinger somewhere else...

What the actual f*ck are they doing? Listen, Kia: you're not that good. Time for a reality check and an ego check.

Yeah, the dealer was very old school. Took us to a desk and asked a million questions.

We wanted to test drive the Stinger, Optima SX, and Sportage SX. Really wanted to give wifey a chance t test drive several different cars from different manufacturers to see what clicked with her. Wanted to avoid what has us looking now: she rushed and bought something she doesn't really enjoy (Impreza Wagon) coming off of her previous car that she absolutely loved (Civic Si).

We test drove the Optima SX. The test drive consisted of 10 minutes riding with the sales guy driving it while explaining all the features of the car and about 5 minutes of my wife driving through a neighborhood back to the dealer.

The salesman went to get the Sportage SX, then came back several minutes later and said we couldn't because the battery was dead on it.

To get to drive the Stinger, we'd have to do the entire process up the point where you would go into F&I, then go on "a quick test drive", come back and sign everything.

I had doubts before this that Kia would be able to pull off the Stinger with the dealerships it has. I'm even more skeptical now.

On the up side, we called another Kia dealer and said "hey, if we drive over can we take out a Stinger?" The response was "Sure, come on down!" We showed up, salesman took us to one on the showroom, gave us a rundown on the trims and features, then straight out to one he had pulled up for us and we both went for a spin in it. Think Wifey is sold on it. Liked it better than the dozen or so other vehicles we tested. Her take: "it feels like an adult Civic Si".

May end up with two in the driveway soon if I can get over my aversion to automatics.

Wow, that first dealership sounds terrible. And it looks like they lost a sale. I wonder how many other sales they're losing because of incompetence. But I'm glad to hear one dealer came through and did the right thing. I hate to ask because nobody has times these days - especially around the holidays - but if you don't mind - would you post a quick review of that positive experience you had in our Dealership Experience area?

https://stingerforum.org/forums/the-stinger-dealership-experience.20/

It's so rare that people are having good experiences that I think it would be a nice thing to give credit on the rare occasion they do good. This way other people also visit that dealership and reward them for their professionalism. If you happen to have a lot of free time on your hands, you could always share your negative experience as well. :p

As for your aversion to automatics, you sound like a good friend of mine... You can do it! :p

It makes me laugh. Over 800 cars available now looking at cars.com. I’ve purposely “saved” twenty or so of them. A week in and they are all still available. Maybe the $5,000 markups and all the hassle will make this intro an absolute flop for them. The dealership experience is the first impression for many coming from other brands.

So dann true. I expected the same coming from a Toyota and I first noticed shit service from hyundai after my first oil change. Took Toyota to vac and oil change my can in under 30 minutes. Hyundai took almost 2 hours each time.
I feel like going back to Toyota but I keep forgetting all they have is a Toyota 86 without a turbo
Anyways I noticed most hyundai dealers in socal have 3 stars which sucks since local lexus and infiniti dealers have 4.8 or higher. I know its hard to compare lexus and hyundai but they also have the genesis so no excuses!

Will post a review of the good dealership after wifey gets hers.

I understand the impulse to get over invoice if you can get it. No one complains about paying under invoice after all.

However, I think it's short sighted for any dealer that's even somewhat decent. I've had three dealers try to pull that crap. 1999 Mustang Cobra, Mazdaspeed 3, and Civic Type R. The first two, I ended up getting used with super low miles for a song within the year. The last, I'm still considering purchasing once I see how the transmission issues are handled. However, I'll never darken the doorstep of those dealers that wanted to play the no test drive and you'll pay $X over invoice crap and, even years later in the case of the Cobra, still tell everyone I meet to avoid those dealers like the plague.

The thing is, I think a lot of those dealers aren't losing anything. They treat everyone like crap, so they don't have to worry about future business anyway. They rely on a new crop of sheep that don't know how badly they're going to get fleeced.

The Civic Type R brought out the absolute worst in dealers. $10-15k was the rule for a lot of dealers. What aggravates me most is that all the publications rant about how amazing they are for the price. But almost no one actually pays that price. $35k gets you an amazing car for the price. $50k makes the purchase just plain stupid unless you're a total Honda fanboy.

I know its hard to compare lexus and hyundai but they also have the genesis so no excuses!

Yeah, but with the Genesis, you never have to go to the dealer now. Just call, they come pick up your car, drop you a loaner, then bring your car back to you and pick up the loaner. Would be nice if Kia would do the same with the Stinger.

I have a new idea
GENESIS STINGER
f*ck me?
I went to my local Chrysler dealer and drove test a charger art 392 going for 42k
Needless to say I'm heading full force to pick one up soon.
Interior isn't as edgy as other companies literally a.c. controls and a screen
So dann basic
Other companies have like a cockpit of buttons feels like I'm in a f*ckin jet

I forgot all about those ridiculous dealer fees added on to the Civic Type R. Thanks for reminding me. Even highly reputable dealers like Honda pull this nonsense... As for Genesis and that service where people come and pick up your car for service - I'm not sure I like that idea. You better have somebody come out that I truly believe looks mature enough and responsible enough to drive my car...

Oooh a 5.0 V8?
*snatches keys*
"I promise ill bring it right back!"

Can you really blame those young kids? They barely make minimum driving this is like a rolls royce to them. Let them burn some rubber and use your leather ventilated seats blasting hip-hop

I know this is years later but they lost a potential easy sale from me today. Weird crazy markup.
