Hey everyone! I’m 16 years old and was wanting to know if this would make a good first car. I am paying for half of it with my own money and I’m a responsible straight A student. I need to drive decently far every few days. Is the base Gt a good fit for someone my age?

No one on here is going to be able to answer the question for you. That’s for you and your parents to decide.

My opinion is that the GT is too expensive and has too much HP for a first car. But parents buy C63 AMGs for their kids.

GT No the 2.0T YEP I don't want to get into the your 16 and you're very responsible and a straight a student , and you never drive over 25 miles an hour, I will not let any my friends drive it, and I promise I'll be home by 9 o'clock. We were all 16 once maybe not all A students or B students , But we were 16 with a license. Do your parents know that that car goes 167 miles an hour I'm just saying. I'm just saying the temtation will always be there with a GT Now how good are you resisting temptation ? Honestly I'm not trying to get into your face but those are a few things to think about ,one thing for sure before you buy anything check and see what your insurance is going to be . I envy you , oh to be 16 again have a healthy prosperous and SAFE Life God bless .

If that's the case then I don't think the Stinger is going to win you any popularity contests at school. Sure, WE know how good it is but being 16 yrs old I'm thinking the FB/Instagram crowd ain't going to be impressed. When I was 16, all that anyone cared about was the brand itself, not the item in question.

That being said if you don't care about that stuff then do whatever your parents allow. I just hope they are helping you make the best decision 'cuz lord knows the majority of 16 yr old out there don't know poop.

Oh and if anyone gives you grief about getting a 50k car at 16 it's usually out of jealousy (heck at least I am). Good luck.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
Oh and moving forward, to be more of help for Nick, I suggest maybe coming up with another choice for a first car?

I nominate a 2018 VW Golf GTI

Agree with @Aquadog on the 2.0L Turbo. You get to enjoy the ride and looks of a Stinger plus the 2.0L will have enough zing to keep you safe and smiling! One problem though, after driving a Stinger, not many other cars will compare(ride, features and build quality wise) if you swap later on so you'll be pretty spoilt. YOLO!

I don’t know you so I can’t tell you. But if my 16 year old self had a Stinger GT I wouldn’t have made it to 17. I had a Misltsubishi Gallant with a 0-60 of about 45 seconds and had plenty of fun...

I saw in one of your posts what cars the other kids drove to school have you ever thought about going old school 68,69 Camaro SS, Chevelle SS , mustangs, GTO. Now there's a few cars it would stand out in the parking lot .

You say your 16 but your profile states 18, so how old are you really?

If your parents are willing to pay for it, why not. It is an amazing car!
But the car that will replace it later, possibly with your own earned money, will have to be very expensive if you want to go for better.

I smell bull shit.

My first car at 16 was a supercharged 93 Mustang 5.0. My next car after that was a Supercharged and nitrous 98 Mustang Cobra. I paid for everything myself and I don’t think there is an issue with someone getting what they want as long as they can afford it. If you’re into cars and the Stinger is what you want...go for it.

You have to ask yourself if this is what you want. Do you want a performance car, an economical car, a beater, etc... it’s all for you to answer. Like I mentioned before, if you can afford it and want it, go for it.

I don’t believe in the get your child’s first car as a P.O.S. unless the parent is having to pay for it and they don’t have much money. My kids will buy their own cars with the money they make...so it’ll be their decision.

That was my first car: 1994 VW Golf GTI
Loved it and it was a great first car

@Nick Santiago, disregard any forum members ragging on your age.

I used to do the exact same thing as you, come on the forum of the respective car I had my eye on as a teen and hope someone would write a message I could print and show my dad to help convince him I needed that car!

I'm not necessarily gonna be that guy. I think a GT may be too much car for a first car. When we say it has power it REALLY has power. I don't even know how much it would cost to insure a 16-year-old with a Stinger GT.

My first car was a 2006 V6 Mustang. That car had 210 horsepower and was the coolest freaking car in my high school parking lot. Sure, there were faster cars but the Mustang looked awesome and had enough HP to be fun. So that's why I would recommend you focus your efforts on the 2.0 Stinger, it has 255HP which is more than enough to have some fun with friends on a Friday night after the football game.

If I were you, I'd go for the 2.0 Stinger and do what I did to my Mustang; buy some great looking aftermarket pieces to dress her up a bit and then even invest in a reputable chip if you want that extra boost.

Good luck!

Why disregard age? Age is an important factor, especially being that car accidents are then number killer of teens 16-19. I went to school with a kid who ha(or even the Civic Type R)d a Dodge Viper (1996). It wasn't a smart decision by his parents. Obviously, everything depends on the kid, but I wouldn't get a car like that for my kid.

With that out of the way, I think the 2.0 would be great for you. And while not as sexy, I think I could live with a Civic Hatchback (or even the Type R) as a more economical but still fun if I was a teenager. Might not be your style.

Age is definitely an important factor, but that's no reason to talk down to him (and not saying you were!).

My first car was a 1956 Olds 2 door hard top .

The GT is nice, you will like it.

Maybe this is just his parents taking a survey . I was wondering the same thing when I checked his avatar .
