So I paid a collision spot that the Kia dealership recommended to put an E badge on the hood, f&*%ed it up. I don't want to call them out for various reasons, but they then tried to cover up the f*ck up and I noticed it. They drilled holes laterally into the fender so they could offset the badge 1/16th of an inch to cover the missing paint and still left a deep gouge in the paint not covered by the badge. I could tell it was not centered and given the deep scratch I figured f*ck them and I would just eat the cost and go elsewhere to have it replaced. When the second shop removed the badge that is when it all was clear, it wasn't a mistake.

I was a dick in an email and sent him an invoice from a shop known for high end work, he agreed to pay it. I have since decided I will not go that route, if I have it repainted I will find out what he would charge someone and ask him to pay that portion of the work. He f&*%ed up, I noticed and he did own up to it and wants to make it right.

So my question is, how will aftermarket paint wear over time? I have never had a car I cared about, and have seen some pretty poor paint jobs on 2018 stingers that had to be repainted and just two + years later they look horrid. I'm wondering if I should just live with the minor paint issue or have it repainted. I read all this stuff about factory paint vs. aftermarket and many say don't do aftermarket unless you must.

Looking for people with experiences of aftermarket paint jobs, high end work.

My Ceramic grey pain has been solid no chips no fading, nada. The only experience with aftermarket paint I have is that touch up paint for my Ceramic grey I bought from Kia OEM matches exactly the original paint. This is one of the reasons I never will debadge my car, its easy to F the paint then you have the deal with consequences. Good luck.

Love the ceramic grey, pity for 2020 it wasn't available in the GT1. It wasn't the original debadging that f&*%ed it up, it was them trying to remove the 3m adhesive because they couldn't put the goddamn thing on straight the first time.

I still get pissed thinking about it, but I f*ck my job up too at times, so. . .

I can't speak to having my Stinger painted, but my last car needed work thanks to some a$$ at the airport who didn't leave a note... the body shop did an amazing job, and many years later you would never be able to tell where the work was done... but my understanding is the colour of the car will play into it. The advise that I got, and will pass on - look for a body shop that specializes in aluminum and carbon repairs (so basically really high end cars) and check out their shop and look for certificates that show they have factory certified aluminum techs if it's not listed on their website... my shop provided a lifetime guarantee of their work in writing. I would go back to that shop in a heartbeat (but hope I never have to!)
