Hi guys,

I would like to show you a YouTube video where you can hear the optional bi-modal exhaust system for the Stinger V6 that you can buy directly from Kia in Germany. As in other markets this exhaust is not manufactured by Kia but a local partner called „Bastuck“. I have ordered my Stinger with this exhaust and hearing it I have to say that I am quite disappointed. For me it does sound very strange and not deep and sporty like I was hoping for. Please let me know your opinions.

Greetings

Sounds better than stock. I'm not sure you'll ever get a deep throaty v8 sound from the lamda. How much extra did it cost you?

Round about 2.500 EUR

It sounds better than stock, but unless a pretty hefty performance boost comes with it, it's not worth 2500 IMO.

Bastuck says that it will give another ~11hp. Who knows. Problem is that it‘s very complicated to get any aftermarket exhaut here in Germany because of very strict noise/db regulations. In Germany you have bi-modal systems to keep the noise down when driving slow. These systems are speed regulated and the flaps must not open if you‘re slower than 45 miles an hour. The system measures your speed and when you‘re fast enough the flaps will open and you get the sound. In the video they have a remote for that, which is illegal in Germany.

It‘s a bit like this one or nothing - also in combination with the Kia warranty, which of course won‘t be affected by the Bastuck system because it is an official option.

For me the stock exhaust sound was way too weak. Esspecially for a car that looks that sporty.

Sounds pretty good for a new install, it will get deeper as it carbons up in time.
EUR 2,500 sounds expensive = approx. AU$3,968.00.
The system Kia AU is offering is AU$2600+ but at least you are reportedly getting 11hp performance gains, Kia AU version is 0kW gain.

I thought since June 2016, exhausts with anything that modifies loudness (aka make louder) outside the test zone are generally forbidden in the EU in new cars?

The way Andy explained it earlier, is the only way it's allowed, in Germany at least.

And I have to say, if I buy an exhaust i'll buy the Jun with the flaps operated by the Switch :D

Also, I think the dB regulations are always active, so even with a flap, we have to stay below 70 dB to be legal, since the Stinger is not above 272 PS/ton. That would mean that all flaps, that exist and automatically open are not to make a car louder outside the testenvironment (since EU 540/2014 also states you're not allowed to be much louder than testenvironment in "normal street use") are only there to make the car less loud.

I have to check at a modern Lamborghini or Porsche or so. Depending on power/weight they're only allowed up to 74 dB (4 more) at the moment .... and somehow I doubt they're all like that?

(Don't get caught with the Jun :P )

Thanks for posting. In the second portion of the video, sounds a bit louder and deeper. I like that!

Yes that‘s the part where the flaps are opened.

Sounds great, they all should come with the 2nd mode of the bi modal as the only option from factory. To be honest the engine just doesn’t have a great growl, it’s just not a loopy cam

i would be happy enough with that sound

Blue is Original AMG I think. Orange is nice, but might go on your nerves, if too loud inside. Neither would ever be allowed in the EU :(

Bastuck exhausts are conservative when it comes to sound, not loud enough because of regulations they have so you pay a lot but not really get what you paid for and it's all about getting this legal. My bastuck exhaust on hyundai coupe was barely a bit louder than stock, all that turned when headers and cat were replaced.
