Hello,

I just purchased a Kia Stinger AWD. Every time I stop at a stoplight the engine shuts down until I press on the gas then it starts back up. I know about the button to stop this from happening. But I have to engage the button every time I start the car. Is there a way to put it in permanent mode where the engine doesn't shut off without pressing the button when I get in the car every time ?

Thanks...

So do you press the button every time or do you just let the engine shut down at light ?

I let it shut down since I can be sitting at a light for a while. I don't think it hurts anything other than bothering you, really. I know a guy on here disabled his by snipping the wire. Not something I would do personally but it depends on how much it bothers you. It also seems apparent that it has a mind of its own on when it wants to activate and when it doesn't despite the parameters being met per the owner's manual.

I agree it does have a mind of it's own. Sometimes it remembers the mode I left it in.

It always deactivates. What you’re probably experiencing is the automatic deactivation of that feature until the car is warm or if it isn’t at a certain charge

Early on, several people had a fix for this by jamming something under the top "button" facade to permanently hold down the little button underneath. It hasn't gotten to the point of bugging me enough to do this yet, but that's pretty doable, and no ill effects months later, as I recall.

I’ve gotten used to it. If you come to a stop with very light pressure on the brake pedal it doesn’t activate.

You do not need to hit the gas to have the car start again. Simply release a little pressure on the brake pedal when you are getting ready to go. Or like Callum said, feather the brakes to a stop and it wont activate. I dont like the car shutting off but I also dont like idling for a few minutes waiting for a light to change so the feature serves its purpose for me.

I have noticed 2 behaviours.
1) AutoHold off: Release break pedal a little, engine starts
2) autoHold on: Release break pedal all and give a little gas, engine starts.

A little off topic. As a person that has been driving an Optima hybrid since 2012, I have gotten used to that feature and don't mind sitting at a light without the engine running. I am also one of the few that want a hybrid (performance hybrid) Stinger that can be silent sitting at a light and upon take off. That electric torque off the line is just great!

All cars are getting this feature these days, you'll get used to it and after some time, it won't bother you.

Perhaps you should dive into the owners manual for a bit.

Two thicknesses of a common business card are just right to slip tightly into the slot behind the button. Cut them small enough and they're not even noticeable. Press the button in, then slip the piece of card in to make it stay depressed, and you're good to go. I did it months ago and haven't looked back.

This is my first car with it and honestly I don't mind. The mileage isn't very good so I'll take all the help I can get. If you have the climate control on Auto it will turn the engine back on if the temperature rises a degree or two above what is set, so it never gets uncomfortable in the cabin. You can turn the engine back on simply by taking slight pressure off the brake pedal, or selecting a gear. I've been in some cars where the ignition lags and you need to anticipate leaving a stoplight, but the Stinger's system is pretty responsive.

I have had VAG cars (company leasing when i was employed), one of the cars shut down the engine several meters before i've come to full stop at the red light. (Meaning, i slowly roll toward the stop because i know it will be green in any second). But it shuts down the engine for a halv second, because now its green and i starts to accelerate.. >.<

Hello,

Partial solution. I have a 2023 GT2. I discovered at a stop light to push the brake pedal just hard enough to keep the car from rolling, the engine will not shut off.

I know the Auto stop/start feature is all the rave now on just about all new cars. Personally I think it is an ok feature if you want it but it should be like other features where the owner who dropped several thousands of dollars on something can choose if it is on or off permanently. I personally do not like it because I live in a smaller town (not the big metroplex) where there are a lot of four way stop intersections so you are stopping, then moving forward, then stopping, then moving forward...just to get through a single intersection at rush hour. Sure I can press the button to turn the feature off (and I do) but I'd rather not have to do this every time I jump in the car. I also have a concern about excessive wear on the starter motor. I've heard many who have said it is a non-issue but as someone who has replaced many starters, alternators, water pumps over the years in many different vehicles I cannot see how this is not going to excessively wear the starter motor. If you do mainly highway driving it's a non-issue. If you spend most of your time in city stop and go traffic then start putting away money for that starter replacement.

I belive there're some models where you don't even have an option to turn this crap off. That alone will keep me away from buying that car.
