A few months ago I noticed a small amount of oil under the engine. I cleaned it up and checked after about 1000 miles. Still there. Recently took car to have dealer check it out. They confirmed it and looked for an external leak source. None found. Appeared to come from inside (my theory : rear main oil seal). After engine removal and trans. split the source was found to be a leaking plug seal at the back of the engine. Parts now on order. Hope it gets back together ok.

that's a lot of work for a tiny seal. Now its time for the real challenge: putting it back together

If you ever wanted springs, now's the time.

At this point I just want my car back.

Interesting. Another common issue in other Hyundai V6 (3.5 litre) motors is the oil pressure switch that sits in the V6 valley and drains out between the trans and motor.

The dealer checked this prior to removing the engine/trans. That would have been an easier fix.

Are they 100% positive that is what it is? There was another thread not long ago (Oil leaking... i don't know what oil it is) and it was the transmission oil pump and the entire transmission was replaced. I have the same photo took while doing the first oil change, the fluid definitely red-ish color, I have been waiting to take it in.

Going by the color of the oil that was leaking, it looked like it was from the engine not the trans. When I do my winter tire switch I'll take a look.

Mines in the shop now, same issue. Motor out, gearbox out, drive train and exhaust out. I hope they put it back together right....

Might have to add mine to this list. I just had the 12 month log book service done and my mechanic found a slight engine oil leak at the bell housing. He cleaned it off and I will check this weekend. If it's back again within days, she's going in for surgery.

Car has only done 7,600KM and already has a leak. Most unhappy.

Noticed a mild bit of mostly dried fluid in the same spot on mine when I did my first oil change. It has been about 2000 miles since and I am terrified at the thought of them even telling the dealer and them needing to pull my motor/trans. Makes me want to just trade the car in for something else instead with less than 8,000 miles on the car.

Looked today and it is leaking but not bad.

Thinking I might hold off until my next service and see how bad it gets.

As with everyone, I cringe at the thought of the power train being removed....

Anyone find anything new to add as to the cause of their leak?

Mine was a leaking seal on an oil gallery plug at the back of the engine.

I believe I am having the same issue! Do you know if this qualifies under warranty?

Warranty covered it.
