Hello,
I got my used 18 gt2 about a month ago and when I first got it I noticed the dynamic bending lights doing a self test at start up. I usually run my headlights in auto and understand that is how you activate the DBL however I realized I haven’t seen it do the self test of moving the lights up down left right at start up in my garage since that first day. Any idea on how to get them to do that self test again or insight on how others act at start up.

Mine seems to do it every time I start it up and the lights come on. Not sure about everyone else.

I haven’t seen it do it yet but I have a very uneven wall in front of me when I start it up. Does it have to be a flat wall?

As long as you can see the light on the surface in front of you I would think it should be visible, but Idk without being able to see the wall for myself.

I remember the movement of the self test when turning on to be very obvious movement. Uneven wall wouldn’t matter. I’m wondering if it has something to do with another setting somewhere. Like the headlight delay being on or something.

Do you have the headlights switched to Auto? Yes just checked the manual, the DBL will activate if the lights are in Auto mode. And I just re-read your first post stating you knew this so disregard me.

Lol. I usually leave the lights on auto when shutting down and starting the car. I’m trying different positions today. Left the light’s in the on position when I got to work. I’ll start it then change to auto and see what it does. The lights move while I’m driving so I know they work, I just want to see and understand how to get them to do the self test. I know it must be a setting somewhere that is canceling out the self test unless something weird is going on with a module somewhere.

I can't imagine a setting that would disable the self check for the car, but it's not impossible. I haven't come across anything that suggests that's a thing though, either by scrolling through the settings or reading the manual. If someone else knows this is wrong then please, correct me.

Nothing in the manual I could find. I looked last night. I’m going to go through the car settings again tonight to see if I missed something. Hopefully someone has already been through this and know what’s up.

Just park facing a flat wall next time you are out and about at night. It should be obvious.

Mine does it every time I leave home, because it's in a garage so the lights fire up even if it's daylight outside. (Also the side mirrors dim, because the "daylight" sensor thinks it's dark, but the "rearview mirror" sensor sees "headlights" (daylight) behind me.

Yeah I took mine to Kia and I had my routine oil change. I told them the dynamic bending like comes on every now and then and then almost all the time when I start up the car. My car was a little dirty when I brought it in and one of the texts said that there is a sensor on the windshield along with the 1 in the middle of the car that dictates The malfunction. Now that's the 1st time I've ever heard that. I asked them to check it they did of course he said nothing is wrong with it. So so all that day the light didn't come on but don't you know I woke up this morning and the light came on. So when I went to get gas I cleaned my windshield it's built the lights not on because we all know if you turn the car off and turn it back on it doesn't come on until the next time you start the car. So what is the deal a deal it's irritating and we pay too much for these cars for just to be common

My 19 GT2 does the test each morning. My lights are set to Auto. I am a bit confused; are the lights moving while you are driving and you don't see the test being performed? After the COVID isolation, i thought mine was not working. I was partially wrong; they don't bend with the brights on.

At night time, they move prior to your turn. Mine seem to not work anymore though. I have a light up on my dash DBD (Dynamic Bending Light)

No this was during winter time lol And garage kept as well. Ever since then, wasn't working.

My warranty covers it, but the thought of going to Kia makes me nauseous.

mine dident work below 15F or so but above that they worked fine. it should be a pretty quick in and out, cuz that stuff can be tested pretty easy.

Yeah I assume it was due the cold as well. The little lights that swivel around may have caused some issue and need recalibration. Ill get it done after I get the car back. Maybe it'll randomly work again too!

As far as I know it has to be in AUTO for them to work. If you use the switch it will cancel DBL mode and you have to put in AUTO, shut the car off and restart it to turn it back on.

Silly

EDIT: Zombie thread.
