Has anyone put better tires on the stock 19's for drag racing? I'm spinning out of the hole when launching.

Probably best to get replacement wheels (at the same time as drag radials if you plan to DR often) as the stocks wheels are anchors.

Welcome, @Mikia The OE rims weigh 13 and 14 lbs more than the TSW "Watkins" rims that I currently run with summer tires. I bet you won't be finding summer tires that grip better than the Michelins. But I could be wrong (again). :p

I plan on getting new rims eventually but for now just in need of two tires for the stock wheels that will hook when launching from a dig.

What pressures are you running? Generally I'd run lower pressures than road pressures for any sort of motorsport.

A semi-slick of some kind may work for you - Yokohoma Advan AD08Rs, Federal 585Rs, Hankook RS3 Z222s, Toyo Proxes R888s, etc

Mickey Thompson also do drag tyres.

30 psi which was probably not low enough. Thanks for the recommendation on the tires now I just need to figure out fitment and such.

RWD here. You can run a 285/35/19 ET street SS. Had 0 problems out of the hole. BUT, because of how wide the tire is on an 8.5 and the softness, it is NOT something you want to daily drive. You get a shake and float at higher speeds. I would suggest a DR as a track only setup. I currently have NT05 nittos as a street radial and work well when they are heated up. I’m full bolt on/WMI if that matters.

Thanks! MT FTW! What size are your Nittos?

255/40/19

Good tire for everyday use. Won’t hook up like a radial unless they are heated up. Though when I do a drag set up, I’ll do an 18” wheel with 305/40/18 ET Street SS’s.

the key to getting a good time with the Stinger today since we still can't launch hard and on boost is to reduce the tire diameter. So you will definitely need the traction figured out, but I would suggest staying around 25-26" diameter tires (stock is 26") if you want to achieve a good 60" and ultimately a good 1/4 time. If you don't want to spend on a new wheel/tire combo then the 285/35/19 ET street SS is probably your best option (26.9") probably slightly more than 27" because its on a narrower wheel.

If you want to go all out, I would suggest the Forgestar F14 wheel in 17" with 275/40/17 MT ET Street SS, you will need shorter rear end-links to fit the 17inch wheel.

Why are shorter rear end-links required to fit a smaller wheel?

for clearance because a smaller wheel will touch the endlink. It will also come down to the offset and wheel barrel size which is different on each brand. Better to buy the wheel and see if it clears before buying the endlinks, but this is to tell you guys to expect that it can happen as it has with another member here.

In my case due to the big brake kit I have, the smallest wheel I can fit in the back is an 18".

Right, gotcha. I was thinking that the brake caliper would be the limiting factor.

FYI, depending on the wheel barrel size, the wheel might not clear the caliper because of the tabs. The good news is they are removable.

Your saying that will shorter sway bar end links the 17" forgestar from let say an s550 will fit?

Not sure, never ended up putting drag radials. When I was researching it at the time Crewdawg130 had radials and his experience was using a +30/35 offset wheels/radial ended up having the tire rubbing the endlinks, he had to go with shorter whiteline endlinks to clear it.

So I ended trying some 17x10.5 wrapped in a 305 45 r17.. wheel with 54 mm off set... it rubbed the sway bar end link but wheels was able to sit flush on rotor.

How close was it not to touching? Say 45mm offset?
