Paid the dealership 400+ to change my spark plugs as cylinder 5 had a crack i previously had a place down the road change them previously (around 6k miles ago) and gap them to 0.02 well 150 miles later the same cylinder plug went bad again so i figured coil so i just bought one from napa and droped it off along with another plug as it would rake weeks for them to order and diagnose. When i told him that 2 weeks ago i requested they be gapped to 0.02 so that the new plug would also be gapped the same, he said they dont gap iridium plugs but would cost me 300 to gap them but i run the risk of having damaged plugs! Wtf i was never told this previously! Will they be fine gapped at how they come out of the box?

Gap them your self. It’s so easy. I gapped my plugs and paid a shop for 150 to install them.

I just pulled the plugs today, took about an hour without removing the manifold, you’ll need a 1/4 ratchet, a 5/8 spark plug swivel socket, a 3in extension, and a 10-in extension, with two universal joints.

Pull them out, gap them using a feeler gauge and some gentle taps on a solid surface (or use the BMS tool) and put them back up, will take around 2hr30 in total.

Note that I’m not very mechanically inclined. This job was still relatively easy.

Side note: I had to do this because the mechanics didn’t gap my plugs properly too, lol.

Did you have problems when they work gapped correctly? Ive been doing some hard pulls and everything feels fine havent ran any logs yet as i havent done a solid 30-100 yet

isn't .020 a little tight? Terry recommends .022-.024 I believe.

They're so easy to gap, don't fall into the trap of paying someone to do it.

Use a feeler gauge and a cheap harbor freight C-clamp.

View attachment 67299Denso ikh27s should be gapped at .02

never used one of those feeder things. would it need to slide thru it easily? is the spark plug gap supposed to grab onto the feeder a bit to know you gapped it right?

Just stick the feeler into the gap and tighten the clamp till the gap closes up onto the feeler (snug, don't crush it).

There's a bit of spring to the ground electrode, so for a .020 gap you may want a .017 feeler.

Loosen the clamp and check the gap with the correct size feeler.

Takes about 1min per plug.
