I’m about to purchase a Stinger GT and wondering if paint protection worth it? If so, does the dealer offer an option like I saw on the Kia website called paint protection for $200? Your advice is greatly appreciated. I should be getting the car early next week and excited about it. Thanks!!

I bought that, and at my dealer it was $850 (probably just a pure add on; but it sounded like a good idea at the time:rolleyes:). For the full 36 months of the lease it would cover any damage not bigger than a business card. But I did the buyout and never used it.

There are many forms of paint protection. A dealer provided service that costs only $200 is likely some low grade silicon coating that will last for only a few months. You are better off buying a high quality ceramic coating material (like Gtechniq's Crystal Serum Light) and doing the coating yourself.

I knew I was keeping the car for a while, so I had a shop put a polymer protection film put on the front end of the car and a ceramic coating on the whole car. The short video below gives a sense of all the labor that goes into properly adding those types of paint protection.

More information can be found in the detailing forum.

Cheers & congratulations!

Thanks. That seems like it would cost way more than $200. I’ll check out another forum for sure.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
I never take up any of the dealer services. My view is that anything they offer can be obtained better and cheaper aftermarket with a little bit of shopping around. All you are paying for is the convenience of having them provide the service prior to collecting your new car. And boy are you paying. As already stated a good PPF costs way more than 200 bucks so whatever they are offering is probably rubbish.

I just invested in an X-Pel PPF for my Stinger. I got the partial hood/fenders,full bumper, headlights and mirrors. Basically covers the first 24 inches from the front of the car plus the mirrors. Cost me $895. I think it's well worth the price cause these cars are so low to the ground, it's inevitable you will get rock chips.

The Kit the dealer is offering is likely a version of this:

KIA STINGER HOOD PROTECTOR- Clear appliqué

You are better off going with XPEL or a 3M self-healing PPF.

Thanks guys!

photo? can you see the line on the hood?

How about for FREE...given all the negative topics around the paint??

I just realized that the OP was not talking about "paint protection insurance", i.e. repairing damage from road hazards and such. :p:rolleyes:

I went with Element 119 Diamond coating that was done by the shop that did my window tint. AMAZING results, and 1000000% satisfied with it. I'd definitely look into it as well.

You can definitely see the line on the hood but it serves it's purpose. I guess if you want complete transparency, you can just get the full hood and fenders done. Would cost $1000 more. I'm debating getting a ceramic coating over the entire car instead though. I'll try and get a close up pic soon.

Not necessarily. A shop might do the entire front right back to the rear line of the fenders and hood for under a thousand. And then again, they might charge $1,500. The prices vary wildly.

Local quote for full front end was $1800 with suntek!!

And there you go, the instant I posted: $1,800, even more! Heh! That's twice what I paid for full frontal coverage.

Full frontal only? Is that like seeing the Stinger wearing assless chaps??:laugh:

Sorry Merlin, couldn't resist, LOL.

Prices vary widely as does the quality and warranty. I got mine done at X-Pel so I know it's done right. Warranty for 10 years. I can go to any authorized dealer for warranty issues. The prices I quote may not be the cheapest but then again, I don't want the cheapest quality either.
