Hello everyone.... just wondering if your roof molding are cracking. I have a 2018 stinger and the molding are painted silky silver from factory but they look terrible..with cracks. Is there a recall or do I have to buy them and paint. Wondering if the dealer has them already painted haven’t gone or called to check. Please need insight my Kia only has 29 thousand miles just don’t know why this is happening.

Take it to the dealer and they will replace it under warranty.

I think that this fairly common (eventual) flaw is mainly caused by a lot of exposure to strong sunlight/heat; possibly coupled with what you put on your car to clean it. I have my Silky Silver under a carport 99.9% of the time; I rarely have it parked out in the sun for hours at a time; and I have never used any cleaning solutions but those used in a car wash tunnel a few times per year (in the past, no longer); the rest of the time it is Optimum No Rinse and soft/distilled water. My "weather strips" (aka drip rails) are still pristine after 32 months.

@rocket23 took his strips down to the bare steel and clear coated them. In the pics they look good and almost seem a close match to the dark chrome accents.

Funny you bring this topic up. I too have noticed that my driver side roof moulding is cracking. I wonder how prevalent this problem may be. I will see if this is under warranty but, will wait a bit since they have recently replaced my torneau cover.

Wow yes that’s it!! On the silky silver it’s more pronounced!

Hey I googled cracking paint on Kia stinger 2018 and it came up with a recall. I had the link but bc I’m a new member I can’t post it. Don’t know why bc we are here to help each other.

Thank you buddy. It is a recall that can be found on Google, got it!

The only TSB for paint was the Sunset Yellow. But Kia does replace those drip rails that crack. They come unpainted, but in many cases are then painted through the dealer; no cost to the owner (but not "no hassle"; some of these simple replacements take weeks; but at least you don't have to leave your car; it's a simple, "ready, come in" call, and they pop the old ones off and snap the new ones one).

Had my roof rails replaced today (warranty). 2018 model.
Car went in at 9:43am - done by 10:05am

I had mine replaced a month ago. I took mine into the dealer the beginning of November. Originally they said they’d order the parts and then they’d send them down to a local body shop with the car to get everything paint matched and installed. They said they’d call when the parts came in. I called about every 2-3 weeks since my delership’s service dept is severely incompetent at best. So low and behold they finally show up (found out by calling them, and not from them calling me). They were amazed that they came pre-painted. I’m like how the hell did you not know that when you ordered the part? This is the same service dept that told me to let my wife’s Sorento engine go dry with oil since it was defective and eating oil at a rate of 2 qrts every 800 miles.
So yeah 1/2 year later I have new roof strips.

Just had mine replaced under warranty did not paint match them seeing that they are rubber it will just happen again. Also getting all chrome trim around windows replaced due to one side being stained looks like water marks.

thumbs up for warranty.

Yup mine have cracked.
Planning to raise issue same time as the HECU recall.

I don't have any cracks there, maybe because I covered most of it up with window rain guards. On this subject though, my 2018 stinger has more rock chips in the paint than my last 20 cars and I am retired, mostly just drive around town and seldom drive on the highway. Just bad and very thin paint. Anyone else?
