Dealer Markup Cost of oil change

Took my '22 GT2 in for it's first oil change and noticed my dealership changed how they do oil changes. Every car gets full synthetic and oil changes are all a flat fee of $85. They offered a "5 pack" of oil changes for $250 which brings them down to $50 per change. Maybe they charge so much because the oil change intervals have gone up? I asked the service tech about it and he said my car can safely go 8k miles between oil changes - and that there are some customers he is only seeing once a year for oil changes.

$85 is a good price in Las Vegas, many places charge over $100 for a full synthetic change.

Change interval is a hot topic on car forums. It depends on weather/conditions, driving style, and quality of oil. You would need to send the oil off for testing to know for sure the engine is still being protected at 8,000 miles. It's reasonable to assume under normal conditions the oil would be fine, but most of us don't own the Stinger to baby it/drive "normally".

That 5-pack is definitely cheap. 7.3 qts of synthetic and $11 filter. That's going to be well over $50 in material alone depending on the price of a quart.

Not bad for full synthetic.

But we both know they’ll throw cheap mix and still charge you… because stealerships.

Also… enjoy the damage to your rocker panels.

I recently got my oil changed at a local chain, had to bring my own oil filter and was still $83 after taxes (so all in about $95).

My car's service reminder was barking at me about having to bring it in. When I reviewed my paperwork discovered my last change was about 7500 miles prior. So the car's default service interval is 7500 miles. I think the owner's manual says 6000 miles for 'normal' driving/conditions. I can't speak to how the oil looked coming out, I only discovered the 7500 mileage when filing my scanned PDF receipt and noticed the mileage on the prior oil change scan PDF.

Not sure what to think about running the vehicle for that long between changes. I don't drive it hard all the time, the only real factor is the hot summers and I'm not usually idling for long (mostly highway miles). Synthetic tends to hold up real well, it's the reason it's required.

All other vehicles I go 7500/8000 on synthetic. Not sure why the Stinger is special. Maybe the GDI or turbos are susceptible to dirty oil?

My dealer recommended every 5000, book says 6000 for normal and 3000 under severe usage for change interval. For my peace of mind, guess I'm going to go 5000 between changes.

Ironically, yesterday in the mail received this coupon from my dealer for a Complimentary Full Synthetic oil and filter change. Coupon expires 9/15/2022. I've already had my 1 free one at 5000. Was going to do my own changes from here out.
My oil only has about 2500 miles on it as of today. Going to have to think about this...
