Technically not a seat scuff, but just noticed yesterday, saw this on the centre console alum, drivers side, small.knicks and dents. Ouch!

Cause - seat belt buckle.
Everytime i drag it to clip it in, not on the passenger side cos theres more room to snap it in. Drivers side too close too close.

This might be best as a separate discussion so people know to be careful when putting their seat belt on...

Really ? Have you watched yourself put the belt on because I would have thought the belt would have made a bigger ding in it?

Yes, the metal latch.
I dont wear wstch on the left hand no ring, nothing.
I even simulated the process of putting on the belt and realised that"s what it is. The gap is pretty small and tight. Not on the passenger side. Also the fact that I am a small guy, hence the seat is further up closer to the steering wheel.

This leads me to believe that maybe the csuse for the side scuff marks wear is probably cos the seat is further back and the seat belt and or the buckle is rubbing against it. Maybe, the side bolster is not leather! Maybe.

Today I test drove a GT and noticed the same nicks on the central console next to the seat belt clip. This looks like something to be aware of, maybe sticking this thread or making another one will help ?

Yeah I actually scratched the center console. It's very minor but the steatbelt is the cause of damage.

This looks like a serious issue in terms of durability. The cars will look like complete crap after a year or two if they are this fragile.

If you're mindful of it then it should be pretty easy to avoid the damage.

Really? Then why are there threads here and elsewhere about the extreme fragility of the centre console (and not other parts of the car)? I think normal owners who have observed durability of other cars are noticing a big difference after only a few day or weeks of using the car.

Let me rephrase for you. When I am mindful of it I have yet to further the damage to my own car.

I just make sure to curve the clip back towards my body until I’m down below the aluminum. I have one small dent on the passenger side from dropping something but this chat helped me avoid more from the seatbelt. Now it’s just second nature to watch what I’m doing.

The last BMW I had (428i) had glossy plastic center console. That console ended up looking quite scuffed up no matter how I treated it. I prefer the brushed aluminum to plastic.

I've had German cars that had brushed aluminum on the console that had the same issues . A good auto wrap is a solution , they make dozens of metallic finishes and colors ( see attached chart , enlarge and note metallic profiles in the lower right ). I have a habit of dumping my keys in the cup holders and note I've got a few small knicks on the surface , I'm keeping my keys in my pocket now ............

Just buy the replacement ones with the cup holder cover as needed. ;)
