Someone from here (Luminary) sent some front pads that were replaced with non-OEM pads off to Carbotech, and based on that, they're working on custom front pads (see here: Cquence group buy!!). Now they're interested in getting their hands on a set of rear OEM pads, if anyone has any they're willing to donate.

I'm willing to reimburse for shipping. Just trying to get support going from multiple vendors..

I'll do it...was going to buy some rear pads from powerstop since they seem to be the only ones offering them and would be happy to send mine to Carbotech. Maybe they can throw me some free ones for my trouble?

Also, be aware that the Powerstop catalog incorrectly lists rear pads for the Stinger GT.
Those rear pads are for the non Brembo brakes (base/premium).

They won’t fit our GT models.

Assuming you're still up for it, sounds good. Unfortunately, they aren't offering any free pads - would be nice.. You can PM me for details, and I'll repay you for shipping..

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...

Unfortunately, without those Powerstop rears I can't do it...this is my daily driver and I would rather not be down for a long time. Why can't Carbotech just order a set from Kia? They're a company and should be able to just write off the expense.

I agree. A company serious about offering these, should have no problem doing the R&D to get it to market.
Seems lazy, disinterested, and halfhearted to want the pads from an owner, without so much as offering that person a free set when they are available. A discount would also show good faith.

I suspect Carbotech just wants to get their hands on a set to see if the dimensions match any of the parts they already have. If they match or come close, they’d surely add them to their catalog. If it required a custom made pad, it would probably be a while before it actually saw design, production, and sales.

On another note, I’ve been doing a bit of cross referencing myself.
The Lexus IS-F uses rear pads very similar in dimensions to ours.
I’m gonna order a cheap set from rockauto and see if they actually fit correctly and will report back.

I guess you didn't read what I wrote in the other thread:

Update from Carbotech:
We did get them [the pads from Luminary]. They are similar and close to the D1001 pad shape that so many are selling for the car, but different enough that we are going to laser cut the pad shape so that is a perfect match.

Our CT1001 pads will likely work for the track and autox but we don't want to user [sic] that shape for the street. The small, subtle differences could lead to noises and problems and we want to avoid them.

Anyone who wants to order the front pads for the track or autox can but if they want a street compound it will be a few weeks before we have anything. No part number or pricing yet, there are no listings for it. We will make up a part number and figure out the pricing once we get the backing plates form our laser cutter.

I guess he could be lying - but he did say they're waiting for a custom backing plate from their laser cutter and will be releasing in the next month or so.. That's like a 1-2 month turnaround for a new custom pad, specifically made for the Stinger. Seems like they're serious to me.

I can't defend their motivation for asking for existing pads instead of buying them - it does seem like they're a very small manufacturer - but getting them a set of pads that was going to go to waste anyway, for the cost of $15 shipping seems to have gotten confirmation that their existing pads would work for track, AND they're making a custom pad for the street to reduce the possibility of noise. How many other manufacturers have made a custom pad for the Stinger, not just re-listed an existing pad?

I'm trying to motivate more people to certify existing pads and/or make new custom pads, since there aren't the many options, especially for the rear. If it costs me $15-20 shipping out of pocket, I'm ok with that. I've happily used Carbotech pads on my Subaru and I liked them much better than Hawk. YMMV.

No problem, I understand.
