All Stingers have $10,000 markup. I wanted to test drive both the 4-cylinder and the 6 cylinder. Four-cylinder was a breeze to ask for a test drive. The twin turbo version though was a whole different story. The only twin turbo was in the showroom and I asked to test drive it. I was told we need to talk price first and run credit before I was allowed to test drive "to make it fair for the person that buys the car with low miles." I stated that I am very interested in purchasing the vehicle but I need to test drive it and not waste my time discussing the price for a vehicle I might not like. We kept going back and forth until I open up my banking app and showed them my account balance while I said "I will not need to have my credit checked, as you can see I can purchase multiple Stingers if I wanted." I was inside the twin turbo version within 5 minutes and test driving it (huge difference from the 4 cylinder!!). After the test drive the salesperson eagerly wanted me to follow him into the dealership I then told him " thank you for the test drives thank you for your time but honestly I really want white with the red interior and I will wait for the ridiculous dealership mark-up fee to disappear in a few more months you have my number call me if you get a white with red one without a markup."

Welcome aboard, @Thebkguy! Thank you for signing up. Yes, this $10k markup is going on nearly everywhere it seems. But it'll "wear off" soon. I think you handled everything very nicely at the dealership. This is the first time I've actually heard an excuse/reasoning behind the credit check before test driving the GT. They want to avoid putting too many miles on the car for the next owner. Okay, that sounds fairly reasonable. But they really need to get more than ONE GT in their possession. I wonder how long that's going to take. Thank you for sharing this!

I am very patient and will wait if I like the car before paying even list. I am also looking at an Audi Sportback and will test drive both. I have not owned a German car in many years (nightmare on Elm Street like servicing of things that never break on most cars) but I understand that Audi is much better with regard to reliability now. Couple things about the Audi that concern me. The Virtual Cockpit will be super expensive to troubleshoot when it goes down. Also, why no dipsticks?

Welcome aboard, @MonteCarlo! Thank you for signing up. Yes, Audis are much more reliable than they used to be. I don't think they're as reliable as Kias - but they've improved. Yes, the virtual cockpit is not something I'd want without a warranty - that's for sure. I'm sure they'll capable of handling issues, however. They'll receive training. As for dipsticks, I have to imagine they want as many people as possible to bring their vehicles in for service rather than doing anything on their own - like checking the oil.

A $10,000 markup is just vomit-inducing.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
They're just throwing it out there to see if anybody bites. Don't let it bother you too much. I don't like it either but I know I'd never pay it so it doesn't bother me...
I would never pay it either, however if I was 8n a situation like some people on the forum (sorry Jenny) where my lease was up and it was time to buy a car now, I would be pretty pissed off.

Funny you mentioned Jenny. She told me that this is exactly what happened to her. She doesn't want to talk about it. :p I think when all is said and done she wanted the Stinger GT styling without the V6. I think she's waiting until next year to see if the option is available.

I get that. It's still a sleazy thing to do.

Oh, I don't disagree with you. I hope nobody without lots of extra spending money isn't suckered into overpaying for the Stinger...

I had the same experience with this dealer. I called ahead AND emailed about test driving the V6 version of the Stinger. Two different people told me I would be able to. When I came in for my appointment they told me the they wouldn't let me drive the v6 version because it was policy.

I was pissed off to say the least the one salesmen I originally talked to did not try to at all to compromise with me. Im young so they probably thought I was not a serious buyer and just wanted to go for a joy ride.

I was walking out as another salesmen approached me and asked what happened. I explained the situation and he was able to let me test drive the car. After all was said and done I ended up buying the GT2 AWD fully loaded for 52.5 despite their $10k markup he was able to give it to me for sticker price.

Welcome aboard, @init3! Thank you for signing up. And congratulations on your brand new, fully loaded Stinger GT! What color did you get? And what car did it replace?

Your story ends very well and I'm glad somebody had the sense to catch you before you left. What must have seemed like such a disappointing trip ended with you driving home an amazing car. I'm so glad it worked out for you in the end. I bet that first salesman must feel like a real idiot. :p

Congratulations on your GT2! I'm so glad to hear this worked for you. My neighbor told me he's always bought his Kias at CarPros Carson and likes them a lot. My experience when I went there last summer to see the Korean model was not confidence-inspiring, so I stayed closer to home to buy mine. I do think it's all about getting the right sales rep, no matter what dealer you go to, and it does appear that in SoCal, at least, MSRP is the new normal.

Thanks!

I replaced my 2010 scion tC, huge leap I know. I went with the silky silver / red interior combo I absolutely fell in love with this combo when I first saw it.

It really is a head turner I must say, some dude in a BMW i8 gave me some very back handed compliments about how Kia ripped off the look of Panamera.

The Scion tCs are pretty nice. I've always liked them. I'm surprised Toyota didn't end up going BIG with Scion. What a shame. But, that's in the past and now it's all about the Stinger. :p The BMW dude sounds like a <insert expletive here>...

This whole mark up situation is actually kinda funny. When I was purchasing my Stinger, they wanted me to pay $10000 more than MSRP.
Then I simply said that I'm done, no purchase will happen to what they started negotiating.
Dealer: "Would you take it for $2000 less? (MSRP+$8000)"
Me: "Certainly not!"
Dealer: "Maybe we can meet in the middle?"
Me: "No. MSRP or nothing."
Dealer: "It's a new model with high demand."
Me: "I don't care. MSRP or I walk away."
Dealer: "Let me talk to my manager."
Dealer (comes back 5 minutes later): "Good news. If you sign now, we can sell it to you at MSRP".

Wow. That's even more insulting to anyone who paid over MSRP. "If you had just asked three times, you could've paid less!"
