Canadian Price Drop

Looks as thought the GT Canadian pricing dropped from $47K to $45K.

I think the original prices were 46,995 for the GT and 51,995 for the GT Limited.

So the new prices translate to ~$36,877 and ~$40,975 for the US. Wow.

Far from me trying to spoil anybody's fun.....but I have yet to see Canadian (car) prices translating directly into US$. I am guessing the GT Limited to be around the 45K mark. But I don't mind being proven wrong on this one.

$45k is my upper limit on this car, and I really want the Limited. If I have to drop down to the standard GT model in order for it to fit my budget, I may have to pass for now and look at used in a year or two. That would make me very sad because I am sorta obsessed with this car.... So this price drop is incredibly great news. I know it wont translate dollar for dollar in the US, but It seems $45k might be possible?

I mentioned the same notion in other posts here about this same topic. There have even been instances when the prices are the same "number" but in USD instead of CAD. That seems like theft to me.

If there is going to be what seems like the inevitable "just because it is the US we are adding on a James Madison" price increase, I would like to start at the lowest CAD number I can .

I know, I know. This is a subject to be discussed best over a few beers....BTW if you go to the Canadian website now, it's all cancelled - or should I say, you don't see it anymore. Someone seems to be screwing around with the system occasionally. The official reveal in Canada should happen around Nov. 20. Then we will know for sure. Cheers.

Well it's nice to finally see something final looking. Now I'm at least certain I don't even want the Limited so I can stick to the base GT, although I'd love it if someone were to actually review the difference in the audio systems, but I doubt that'll happen before I get to preorder something.

For me, it's got to be the GT Limited. Mainly because of the Autonomous Emergency Braking and Advanced Smart Cruise Control. The AEB can really save your bacon. My last rear-ender , about 8 years ago, happened on a dark winter morning making a right hand turn behind a Volvo. The light changed, a pedestrian stepped out in front of the Volvo, the driver stopped, too late and dark for me to register, and the rest is history. If you drive regularly in stop-and-go traffic, I believe AEB is a must and really should be installed in all cars, just like ABS. I am also looking forward to the HUD. And the 360 degree camera system is nothing to sniff at either. Sure, in 5 years, these things will probably be standard in all cars, but I want it now. If you have the budget, go with the mostest. My comment on the audio system won't help you, because you probably know about it already: The GT Ltd. has 6 speakers more than the GT-Line. So it will be what - louder? Coming to think about it, the GT Ltd. has a woofer under each front seat, do the other models have woofer(s), where and how many. That may be the biggest difference. You may want to investigate.

No. I seem to remember reading recently something like 32 speakers. No idea where they were to put them, but you are also talking tweeters, which are pretty small and directional. But when you have that many speakers, I want the rest of the car really quiet. Otherwise, what's the point?

Even more crazy, its not even the most from Kia/Hyundai. The Genesis G90's Lexicon system has 17 speakers.

Boy, do I agree about the AEB! When I was in a minor head-on a few weeks ago, the mid-size SUV that hit us didn't have it. (Long story short, the Enterprise driver who was driving me home after I'd dropped off a rental car turned left in front of oncoming traffic. Just a couple of bruises, but it scared the heck out of me. Thank goodness my driver stopped in front of the mid-size in the near lane, instead of in front of the Suburban in the far one!)

About every car having these features in 5 years--I've had HUD for 20 years on my Grand Prix, which is a GT, but not even the top trim level, and refuse to go without it. Twenty years ago I thought all cars would have it in 5 years, but it's just now becoming more common, and even now not consistently. Fairly recently, I've been in dealerships where the sales reps either didn't know what it was, or told me I was going to have to spend much bigger bucks to get a car with it. When I point to my geriatric car in the customer lot and say, "She has it. Why doesn't your [insert name of $45k entry-level luxury car here]," their jaws drop.

I look forward to a decent audio system, but I'll miss my CD player. How many times in one life does one need to replace the same music? I think I've owned the Beethoven symphonies in 4 formats so far. Now I'll have to transfer them--and the Stones, and the show tunes, and all my other favorites--to a new format? Dang!

I definitely see the benefit of AEB, I just feel like this is the last car I'll get to buy without all these autonomous features and want a real driver's car that forces me to pay full attention. I know that by the time I have kids and they're able to drive they aren't going to need to pay much attention at all and everything will be safer, but I'm just old school that way I guess.
I'll definitely miss the CD player as I've got a large collection. Not sure if I'm going to drag along a portable cd player once in a while or if I'll spend a week of vacation time trying to convert all my CD's to mp3s. Seems like more hassle than it's worth but I'll definitely convert some.

The electronic assist systems are optional to use. You can use them, but if you prefer it the hard way, you can. Cars equipt with paddle shifters can be driven like a stickshift. If you want to. But this stuff can or could really save your ass, and that of any future offspring or passengers that may be riding with you. Just my point of view and I dont want to convert anybody.
On the matter of you music collection: Nowadays cars come with satellite radio, which reportedly gives you a lot more choice than regular AM or FM broadcasts. It is usually complimentary for a few month, and then you have to decide whether you want to continue and pay for it. In respect to the purchased music in you library: why coudn't you download the titles you already own in a different format. I am not advocating to break the law, but if you already have it, why not? Just a thought. Then put it on USB sticks. 16 or 32 GB hold an awful lot of songs. And you can have sticks for different genres. It shouldn't take a week of your holiday. Anyway, that's the way I would do it. And I am much older school than you are. Trust me.

I use a usb drive in my Optima and I certainly have downloaded a few cd's I already own, but I own a lot of cd's and going through and downloading all of them would be a lot of time. With the programs that automatically rip cd's and label all the tracks it's probably just as easy to go that way, but I'm sure what I'll end up doing is just ripping the albums I really love, downloading single tracks from the albums I tend to skip a bunch of songs on, and completely ignoring the albums I haven't listened to in years.

I just hope the current UVO system is better than the garbage they had in 2012 that insists on playing tracks in a folder in alphabetical order by the song name in the ID3 tag, instead of by the filename that has the track number. Why would I want to listen to albums completely out of order?

Good point about the ability to disengage the nannies.

Old school as I am, I will take the time to download part of my CD collection, but my main objection to doing this is that CDs have better sound quality than anything I can download to. At least that's been my experience listening to MP3s or ITunes on friends' car systems. The loss in sound quality is not quite as noticeable to me with rock or blues as it is with classical, which I listen to at least half the time. The need to transfer and then end up with an inferior product is an annoyance. Hopefully the better sound system (over my old car) will compensate for that and I won't really notice the difference.

I don't know (yet) what the HU (Head Unit) in the "car of interest" is capable of. I understand, that some HUs a capable of playing .flac files, which (supposedly) have no loss. That in my opinion is the way to go - if it is possible.

Not to mention that bluetooth can further degrade the audio from the source, which is why I much prefer to have files on a usb drive rather than connecting my phone. If you're concerned about optimal sound quality, I don't suppose the Stinger will support FLAC files, will it?
It's not something I've really looked into as a decent mp3 is sufficient for me with the road noise inherent in driving.
