• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

Last week I heard a strange sound coming from my air-con fan, lasted 30 minutes then went away, all good. Thought it might be a spider lost its way or similar.

Went away 4 days and started the car up only to note no fan?

Simple I was close to a service centre I'll ask them to look to see if I have a blown fuse or such and book it in if needed.

Nope. We don't do that you need to book it in and the first opening is 9 weeks away, hmmm. Booked it in, told them I would check the fuse and I would cancel the booking if needed.

Go home rang another service centre, same story, we won't look at it, 7 weeks wait to look at it. Oh, I asked what happens if I need a blower motor replaced, will I need to wait another 9 weeks to get it in? Neither could guarantee they would have the parts.

One mentioned it could be the “computer” side of things, but I have discounted this because of the prior noises.

So I look up how hard is it to replace the blower unit, not hard, drop the glovebox, remove the crash pad under cover, unscrew it and away you go! (https://www.kstinger.com/blower_motor-860.html)

So look up the price of a new blower ebay ($381) I expect more from the dealer spare, I thought of asking for a new unit as a warranty replacement, but I am sure they won’t do that, the service department wants the warranty dollars for fitting it, and would scream it would affect the warranty.

So, why and I posting this, I like to know if anyone else has been down this path, and how it worked out for them?

Try a dealer in a smaller town. Might have a shorter wait.

Try pulling the cabin filter first, if something got in there it might be pushed down and stopping the fan from moving.
I replaced my mothers in her elantra and the filter was half eaten by a mouse and was collapsed into the fan.....it was making some weird noise but was still moving.

I have open the filter box and inspected the filter, it's dirty but Ok.

I reached down and tried to spin the fan rotor, it was stuck, with a little pressure I got it spining although not freely, but much better that just stuck, I expect a liitle resistance from the fan motor.

I have checked the blower fuse again, with a multimeter rather than visually, all Ok, I believe it's the right fuse as it is described as:
A/C10AAir Conditioner Control Module, Air Conditioner
Switch, Engine Room Junction Block (Blower Relay)
I haven't checked the relay yet (under the hood).
I might drop the (fan) motor out on the weekend and give it a visual, also take a more serious look at a replacement unit.
AUD 219 is all I can see so far. HERE

I would pull the motor and inspect it for anything possibly wrapped around the shaft. Also looks for signs of rust....maybe put some 3 in1 light oil around the shaft where it enters the motor and see if it loosens up. It could be a faulty bearing....but beware if you are too invasive it might void your blower warranty.
