Brake pedal fully pumped after turning off car

Has anyone else had this issue?

When i get into the car after it sitting either a few minutes or overnight it's as if someone sat in the car and pumped the brake pedal. Makes it very hard to start the car since you really can't press the pedal down.

The car also has a rough idle for the first few seconds after it's started.

My guess both have something to do with each other and it's a possible vacuum leak

I started to have the same issue about three weeks ago after 18 months of ownership. It only happens during a cold start after the car sat for 8 hours or so.

Brought it up to the service department when I had the vehicle in for door trim replacement last week and all they said was they couldn't replicate the issue.

Would be interested to know what could cause this out of the blue. You plan on getting it checked out? as yours seems to be worse than mine.

mine just started out of no where as well.

Mine started doing that a couple of months ago? But so far, doesn't seem to cause a problem, except sometimes I have to step on the brake again to get it started.

Sounds like the check valve on the brake booster is starting to fail or you have a small leak somewhere between the check valve and the brake booster, or the booster itself. The check valve should be an easy fix and is the most likely culprit.

I mean I wouldn't expect the car to maintain vacuum in the booster for that long.

That happens to my wife’s 2019 Santa Fe Limited, and it does not have to be sitting overnight for the brake pedal to get hard as a rock.
We have been seen it happen after only 30 minutes or so and of course the techs at the dealership could not find an issue.

Hasn't happened to my Stinger but has happened a couple times to her '21 Santa Fe. Doesn't seem to be impacting anything, haven't thought much of it before this post.

And like you, my 2020 GT1 has not had that issue in the 1.5 years I have owned it.

Kia won't see me until Sept 9th, so i'm either going to deal with it until then or try to figure it out myself.

The check valve seems to be the most logical explanation, except it comes attached to the vacuum hoses and they want 80-90 for it which i'm not spending since it's under warranty

thats models made in 2017-2018, not the 2020

Wow mine just started doing this and I thought it was crazy weird and unheard of. Looks like I'm not the only one. Anyone fix this yet? I'm going to have them look at mine during the first service. Stock 22 GT2 with about 3500 miles.

Does not happen with other vehicles.
Although have not experienced any problems resulting from the stiff pedal.

Im getting this too now. Car needs to sit for a few days. Just under 2 years old now and ~8500 miles. Starts (with some added effort) and runs/brakes fine.

Mine has done this for years and doesnt seem to affect anything.
