I finally had the chance to tune my stinger using the ek1 and what a difference ! for mod reference my car has velossa tech snorkels, fully catlless exhaust, mbrp exhaust, mishimoto intercooler, and jb4+BMS WMI. Before the ecu+tcu the car was plenty fast but had a few minor issues. Now the car is not only faster, but small throttle lags are gone, and so are my overboost when accelerating up a steep incline at full throttle. The car even idles better and overall shifting also feels better. If anybody has been on the fence about this combo i highly recommend.

I’m on the fence about the ek1, the limited reviews on the tcu by itself worry me. It seems the BEF options they have are great and run well with the JB4 but im curious what improvements the TCU alone makes with the JB4 or even a stock car. I was formerly going to buy Lozic but due to the price and weak reviews I feel like ek1 is worth a shot. Any feedback would be great or any improvements you can feel on some hard pulls? I just want a bit more power output and better shifting

Was having a hard time replying lmao. Anyway, just the TCU tune by itself really improves shifting and acceleration when driving hard. The shifts feel a lot quicker and the car drops gear much more smoothly and reacts better to quick throttle inputs. As for the ECU part I understand you. The mixed things you hear usually involve the sxth tune. For me the hardest part was getting the EK1 to work since their is a little bit of a technical aspect, but nothing hard if you can follow the video tutorial they have. I definitely recommend the BMS tune (it's what I have) especially if you already have the jb4. I have WMI and it used to feel un smooth in how the power would come on. Before when the meth would kick in you'd feel the power spike. Now it's much much smoother as well as having the lower and mid power band feeling much stronger and consistent.

Thanks for the reply! I’ll definitely have to consider this as an option its getting all the points i need! Are you running JB4 maps + BMS TCU & ECU?

With the BMS ECU tune you can run map 0 on the jb4 and basically use it as a log and scan tool. You can change the maps to get more boost, but there is no need for that if you get the appropriate ECU tune for your fuel. I personally use the jb4 for my methanol as well as using it for logs. So to answer your question in short, yes I use JB4 map 7(some settings changed because of the ECU tune) + BMS ECU and TCU tune. Come this summer I'll also be going on a dyno to see how much HP I've got. But I can confirm that my current winter tire setup can easily break traction if I floor it when under 60km/h pretty easily, but surprisingly predictable.

Do you know if you need EWG wires for the JB4 since it does target boost? Or is that all just through the tune on the ECU?

I have BMS BEF Race Ign19, JB4 map3-5, and I'm still using EWG wires. With my adjustment, the ECU psi matches more DME_bt and the response for the pedal is better, the car feels more responsive and faster.

Hello! I am a new stinger owner, spent last few days reading forums and such. Been also debating which route to go for getting a bit more from my stinger. I am located in Europe, so Racechip is by far the easiest solution as they ship from Germany too, but I see mixed reviews. Also been debating the JB4 or EK1 route, but sounds bit complex. I mostly want to keep my stinger stock, spark plugs aside of course, maybe a cold air intake but even that I am unsure yet for now. High octane fuel is pretty easy to get here.

I had plenty of Subarus, but they were tuned ECU via Ecutek, all these stinger options just confuse me which is the best / safe route. Are these EK1 BMS flash require to also use JB4? I get they have useful features (especially if you already own one) but would prefer just flashed ECU OR a piggyback.

Thanks for all the tips!

1. You can find a local tuner and make a full ECU tune.
2. Ek1 solution 1: find a tuner (for example, by EK1Tuning) and make a full ECU tune.
3. Ek2 solution 2: make a BEF (is not a full ECU tune), and get a JB4. By making only BEF, you still need JB4.
4. Go only for JB4.
5. Any other chip except JB4 is a toy.

Each way has its advantages and disadvantages.
When it comes to fuel, remember, our RON is not the same as US AKI. Even Shell V-Power Racing 100 is below 93-E30 :)

Leaning toward tuner if anyone knows the platform, will ask around people I trust. Always afraid buying tunes from a stranger on the internet, would prolly rather trust Burger Motorsport with the JB4 then. So guess JB4 unless I find good ECU tune here.

Yeah fuel I am aware, I only use 100 octane, should be about 93 US pump, is what I meant.

Thanks for advice

Question for those running the BEF Race tune and noticed my Boost only got to 12 psi, which is pretty much stock. Is that normal? Or should it be pushing closer to 17-18 psi?

BEF do not affect boost. You still need JB4, or as you have Ek1 you can go full ECU tune.

Sorry, I should have had more info in my post. I have a JB4, EK1 running the ECU Race tune from BMS. The boost was showing stock psi, so I was wondering if I should be running map 1 in conjunction with the ecu tune? I was not expecting to see stock psi numbers.

BEF is changing some things, like ignition timing, AFR and so on. Boost is added by JB4. Depending on fuel quality and how aggressive you want to go, use map1-6 :)

PS: for a total of 17-18, it should be map2-3.

Ahhhh okay, thank you for clarifying that!!

I was reading a long time ago that EWG wires messed up something in ECU and wasn't compatible with BEF. Is that a old news I remember poorly? Do you need EWG wires if use with BEF?

It was about a full ECU tune, and it concerned one tuner. You can use EWG wires with BEF, or not. It depends on you. They're not required.
