Looking for instructions on how to replace the cabin air filter .

I'd rather do myself if it's easy like most cars .

Behind the glove box. Undo clips, remove old, insert new, fasten clips.

Dang, already? Usually these filters are in 40-60k mile maintenances in other cars

I did my cabin air filter yesterday with only 9600 miles on the car. It took 2-3 minutes just two clips and remove cover. Left side new right hand old $15 bucks.

Any particular reason you didn't buy charcoal type?

Please explain re: charcoal lasting only a week?
From my experience with my cars. You could do what ever works for you it’s more preferences. Just wanted to help the person asking how to change.

Charcoal will last just fine, but it's no better than plain.

As to how often, it takes a minute to pop it out and check it, so I tend to check every oil change. If it looks like it needs it (and you can tell when it does), I order one.

edit: actually, it would be harder to tell with the charcoal ones..

Still curious why you made the original statement as to why it would only last a week.

There was a previous thread on this topic and the statement was made there that carbon filters only have a relatively small amount of carbon and get saturated fairly quickly and thus become ineffective. Dunno if that’s true or not, just passing it on.

I ran charcoal for years on my BMW and noticed a big difference to paper particle. Charcoal seemed to filter out more unpleasant odors like exhaust etc. Can't recall how often I replaced one but perhaps every 12 months.

Honestly I think those cabin filters are there to protect the blower motor more than the owner. Every time you drive with the windows or sunroof open you have defeated the purpose of filtering incoming air. I will tell customers a charcoal one is available but I don't push to sell them.

I feel bad for your passengers if you're replacing CAFs every 40-60k miles.

Most manufacturers recommend every other oil change in frequency, my maintenance plan with Kia covers replacements every 6k miles.
