I'm in NJ and anyone in the Tri-state area knows that road conditions (potholes!!) are the bane of a driving commuters life. My baby Stinger was a recent victim of a brutal beating/warping of the front-passenger wheel (19" GT wheels) and now I need to fix it....Or maybe look into doing something else as I fear this won't be the last affront upon the wheels.

I saw on another thread that someone was advertising 18" wheels with extra meaty tires for a more comfy ride and that's what lead me to this idea of a setup like that, but more geared towards being able to handle the MOAPs (Monster of a Pothole) of NJ.

Thanks.

I’ve hit potholes and messed up 18” winter rims. Sometimes you eat the bar... and sometimes the bar eats you.

Avoid the potholes. Lol

Also, you can file a claim against the city... sometimes it works and you’ll get reimbursed.

@nhcowboy28 Thanks for the suggestion of wheel repair (in other thread), I just made an appointment for repair for tomorrow morning. guy said it should cost ~$100-$130...Which is a LOT better than the $600 I got quoted from the dealer for replacement!!

This is why I bought premium road hazard with the car from the dealer so any issues like that they fix/replace them.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...

You should check with your auto insurance company. I pay an extra $5.00/month per car to have a zero deductible wheel repair/replacement.

Which insurance offers that?

Not Geico, I can tell you that much (called them today and they don't offer it).

Yeah, I typically pass on things like that, but it's pretty clear now that it's actually worthwhile.

Definitely get the tire/wheel warranty from the dealer if your insurance doesn’t cover it. I bent 2 wheels and have never bent a wheel in my life. Otherwise, I highly recommend getting rotary forged or forged wheels. I went rotary forged and no issues since.

The reason people are talking about the 18" wheels is for the option to have a taller sidewall. The idea is to better cushion the blow when it eventually happens.

I'm going to be looking to get a summer wheel+tire setup. The roads are so awful and doomed to stay that way for a while that I'm thinking of going 18s. Some folks here might take away my Man Card if I do, though.

That is a really good repair price. I was quoted $630 per rim for the OE GT rims.

The dealer offered this to me. And I didn't buy it because our roads are pretty decent. If I lived in an area infamous for its road hazards, I would have taken them up on the road hazard insurance.

Still, I watch with a hairy eye for objects/debris and potholes, especially this time of year, after winter's freezing has spawned a lot of new ones. The best tactic is to maintain adequate distance between you and the vehicle in front, so that you have enough time to dodge or slow down.
