I had a 2020 GT2, and sold it for a 2022 GT2. One thing that immediately annoyed me was they removed the sunglasses holder, and put 2 useless buttons in it's place and a ton of dead space.

Finally fixed the issue.

Got myself a used 2020 overhead console on eBay, and lucky enough the wire harnesses are identical, and the 2 screws that hold it in also line up. Only thing i had to do was take 2 buttons, and secure them in the roof with some electrical tape so nothing shorts out.

I did notice that the sunroof switch and ambient lighting have different revisions, so i did swap them over, but before that tested the old ones and they work with no issues, so it's not necessary

I cant believe I didnt think about seeing if they were interchangeable. This is great. I ordered one already. Thanks for telling us about it. I just can't stand my expensive sunglasses flopping about anywhere else.

Aw SWEET! Bit expensive ($200 CAD), but it's been bugging me ever since I picked the car up, probably my biggest peeve of the 2022 refresh, how do you roll something like this back Kia!??
(The cool stinger detonator key-fob and Gforce meters close runners up on the refresh rollback list :cautious:)

I've had the car now for almost a year, and it's also been driving me nuts since day one. was able to get someone to accept an offer of $50 on ebay.

I don't understand why they didn't just put those 2 buttons somewhere else. like on the right side of the mirror

can I ask why you trade 2020 GT2, and sold it for a 2022 GT2? Any major update?
My lease gonna been end soon I may also consider update or G70 if the differents is not big

major reason is I drive a lot, and in a year already put close to 30K miles on the car, and leased it, so i would have been way over the 3 year lease.

Can you go over the process, like a step by step of the removal of the original part?

there are 2 small slits which I circled in red, you put a pry tool into one of them and pop the cover off. there are 2 screws/bolts in there that you need to remove, then the entire assembly will drop out. unclip all of the connectors.

remove the 2 screws holding in the 2 buttons(UVO/Roadside assistance) disassemble the switch so you are left with just the circuit board. I covered the board in black/electrical tape so nothing can short out.

plug all connectors back in, and screw in the 2 screws you originally removed.

I just picked up my '22 GT1 on Sunday, and immediately noticed on my drive home that the sunglass holder in the overhead console that I loved having in my '15 TLX was non-existent on the GT1. I was bummed, and was have been looking through the DIY section this week for this exact mod. Thanks for posting this! I can't believe they took this out for 2 buttons I'll never use.

I see ! Thanks
I went from a 2019 GT2 to a 2023 GT2; key changes include:
  • New taillights; light bar full width of rear end
  • More aggressive rear fascia; larger faux exhaust tips
  • New wheel design
  • '23 includes Grand Tourer package option; blacked out trim and special black leather & suede interior with red stitching, & black scorpion wheels
  • Larger infotainment screen (expected to have future OTA update to allow for wireless Apple Car Play & Android Auto)
  • Side view camera appears on driver's dash when using the turn indicator to show blind spot.
  • Removal of overhead sunglasses holder; replaced with arguably useless Kia Connect and Help buttons
  • New infotainment system initially does not allow for personalization of radio presets order; however, latest update does remedy this (thankfully!)
  • Remote startup on slightly revised key fob

I have a 2022 (2019 previously) the '22 has all of the things listed for the '23-- it looks like only the GT badges changed (font/color).. I hope the new entertainment system software due later this month (Dec. '22) will improve appearance & function.

Anybody get the infotainment update yet? If so does it impove the preset issue?

Love my sunglass holder in my 2019 GTS.

My god, I just spent $37500 on a 2022 Stinger GT1 w/17K miles. I didn’t notice two things. I didn’t notice there was no homelink garagedoor rear view mirror and no sunglass holder. This was so upsetting I attempted and failed to try to return the car. I’ve since found I can purchase the homeljnk rear view mirror, and discovered this mod that you posted. I am so happy this can be done. I just want to say thank you for posting this because you saved me from a 6 year car loan that I was kicking myself for getting into. But I was flabbergasted to discover there was no sunglass holder. Something every car I ever owned has had. Even my 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe had homelink garage door opener and a sunglass holder, as well as my 16K used Chrysler 200 I bought and had in 2016 to 2017. I can’t help express how much restore the ability to the love the car again I bought not even a full week ago. Thank you!!!!!

I did notice that the sunroof switch and ambient lighting have different revisions, so i did swap them over
Hi there, you actually brushed over something I am currently trying to figure out. The trim piece on the side of my sunroof switch fell off. I am trying to figure out how to put it back on. All I can find is a guide vaguely implying the knob should just pull off from the switching mechanism, like a mechanical keyboard. Gave it a good tug but it didn't budge. From your experience, would you say tug harder, or were there any tricks to it? Thanks

have a 2019 gt and the latch for the sunglasses holder is stuck and I have no clue how to get it out and I’ve tried pulling on the overhead a bit and it’s not really coming is there a trick to it ?
