My 2022 GT2 has bent passenger-side rims.

It was time for the 6000 mile balance/rotate. I asked them to look at the rims because I feel it a light vibration when driving and hear a deep rumbling that peaks at roughly 65 mph.

You can see they are bent when observing from the wheel's inside while it's rotating in the balancer. While not a ton of bendage, it's clearly bent.

If it's when I think it happened, I hit a pothole wrong. Dallas is generous with potholes! It was a hard hit.

The tire appears fine. It sounds like since 1. there's no tire issue, 2. the bend is only easy to spot when the tire is rotating, and 3. the bend is only on the rims' insides, it's likely repairable.

A local wheel-repair shop that's well rated, Wheel Repair 360, says $90 per rim for repair.

Thoughts?

I’ve had to replace so many wheels from pot holes, every time I get them fixed I go to a local shop and they charge me $200 each for 19”.

I guess this is just one of the downsides of sports car low profile tires, can’t take hits well.

Perfect oppty to get some new aftermarket rims!!

look even cooler and personalize the look of your ride. also you can get slightly wider wheels for a better stance, and eventually upgrade the tire size when it's time for new tires, further enhancing the stance. Lastly most decent rims will shave off 5lbs per wheel or more. stock rims are super heavy.

Understood, and thank you. I like the stock wheels, so I'll stick with them. :)

No big deal if its the edge of wheel bent but good luck if its an internal bend. Stock rims were 900 bucks each where I live. I can buy a whole set of aftermarket rims for 1100 bucks.

There is no right way to hit a pothole. Well, maybe slowly would count. But then you'd see it coming in time and go around it.
The stock rims are great! What would aftermarkets do for me?
Lighter. My TSW "Watkins" wheels are 13+ lbs. lighter than the OEM GT wheels. I find it incredible that you can bend one of these hefty OEM wheels and not kill the tire. Also, ninety bucks a wheel to straighten it out is a bargain: each wheel replaced will cost you $630 or more (that is a 2018 price).

$90 is definitely a bargain to repair a wheel if that does wind up being the final total cost. Most of my local shops charge about $150-200 for repairing a bent wheel.

The full quote is $90-$150 for repairable wheels. Based on my description, the rep thought I was probably only $90.

I am about to be on my 8th tire replacement on my 2022 GT2 and have replaced four wheels. Most of them are due to potholes. First incident I had to change two wheels and all four tires. The wheels were bent and cracked. The second incident was one wheel and two tires. Third was just a tire. Most recent was a tire but it wasn't from a pothole from from glass or some other shrapnel from an appliance that fell off a truck on the highway.

I may try to find some thicker tires b/c this is way too much considering I just got the car in Sept.

Damn. Where do you live? I want to be sure I avoid the area.

I'd imagine shaving that much weight would make a huge difference. What are your thoughts?

What kind of difference do you have in mind? Rolling weight matters when launching and somewhat when accelerating, but I've never been able to feel any difference with my butt dyno: it would only be a stop watch sort of difference.

If you have a HUD I would recommend turning it way way down to where it’s just barely visible. If I don’t do this on my 1LE I don’t see the road hazards. I turn it up a bit for races, but on the road it causes your focus and attention to miss road hazards.

I don't know about that, my butt dyno has definitely felt a difference since I put my summer wheels on. The car is still fairly new, so part of it certainly could simply be the engine loosening up, and not strictly the lower rotating weight, but recently I've had to pay a lot more attention to the speedo so that I'm not doing the daily triple.

Ripped the right wheels off today for repair. Will get them back tomorrow.

By feel and sight, the bends are not discernable. But they were clearly visible when rotating on the tire balancer.

On the front wheel's inside was what looked like curb rash. I guess I landed in a bad pothole. The rear had no curb rash.

The front wheel's repair is $175 (fix the bend + curb-rash repair), rear is $90 (bend-fix only).

At least you live near a place that repairs rims. I am in Midland, TX and the closest is Lubbock, TX that repairs rims. I had a place subcontract them to fix my wheels for me and they didn't even fix them right. Now I have to get a refund :)
