Hey everyone,

New to the forums and I couldn't find a similar thread (please share if you find one).

I recently got a job and the Kia Stinger is really the only car that's kept my interest for a long time. In 2018, I saw a brand new yellow one at our local dealership and just fell in love.

I didn't know until recently that the Sunset Yellow had some paint issues (cracking etc.), and that they were recalled. Well, I recently found a 2018 Sunset Yellow with low miles for 36k. I'm really interested in this car, but I'm worried about the paint. I called the dealership a few weeks ago and asked if the car had been repainted, and it had not. I'm extremely hesitant to commit to this car because of that--I don't want to deal with a re-paint even in a little bit (to the point where I'd overlook the yellow that I love so much for a silver).

Does anyone have any experience buying a Sunset Yellow Stinger used? Did the paint give you problems? What are your general thoughts about this?

I'd be grateful for any suggestions. Not knowing a lot about the issue I don't feel confident going through with a purchase, but maybe someone's experience could help me out. I seriously love that yellow.

Thanks,

Steven

I cannot comment on the paint issue but suggest you keep shopping. Sounds a bit high IMO. In 2020, I purchased the 2019 ceramic gray gt2 AWD for 38k with 9kmiles. I think you can do better.

This dealer didn't repaint it, but I bet it was given the TSB treatment. All the Sunset Yellows still on the dealers' lots were recalled. Then sold again. I remember seeing one dealer taking six of them (not positive about that number but you get what I am saying). What I thought happened as part of the recall of unsold Sunset Yellows is that each one was carefully inspected. Those that appeared to be flawless were sent back out for auction; those that showed any of the pitting, flaking, peeling or chipping; or that had mismatched plastic sections (color variance) were resprayed first.

If it were me, I'd ask Kia Corp directly (go around the dealer) about this exact VIN: after first inspecting it with full daylight, all the way around, top to bottom: take your time. If you see anything that isn't obvious road attrition: anything like pinpricks in the clear coat, edges missing paint, etc., walk away. But if it seems flawless, then talk to those who know what Kia's policy is with the Sunset Yellow. I think it's good to go.

And yes, that price does seem high. But the used Stinger market is acting weird. A guy on here had his Stinger for a year, with x thousand miles on it, and sold it for what he paid for it. Who would have thought??

Exactly how many miles, What trim, awd/rwd?

even for a low mile gt2 awd, that price is high.

buy something newer. Get it wrapped yellow.

sorry but the limited run yellow isn’t going to be some rare high dollar collector in 40 years.

Easy pass. The price is high.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
I wonder if this was my old car, mine was immaculate and I paid extra to have the plastic parts painted. Paint was better after repaint than when it was new.

The yellow looks cool I could never own a yellow car though.
