Need some suggestions and feedback... several people suggested I apply ceramic coating to my new Ceramic Silver Stinger. Has anyone done this? pros and cons? What should I expect to pay?

From what I read on here it’s worth it. But the price to do it is high, depending on where u go some charge more than others. There’s a thread if u search ceramic coatings in the search menu should come up.

If you choose black, I can tell you it's definitely worth it, I had Ceramic Pro done on mine.....

There are numerous reasonably priced products out there for a DIY application.

Definitely Worth it. Especially if you do it yourself. I did CarPro CQuartz UK 3.0 a little over 6 months ago and the water still beads like crazy and is much easier to wash.

Just got mine done and also got the Xpel clear bra on the front and back bumpers, rockers and door edges.
depending on which level you go with (I went gold package and lifetime warranty) you will have that newly waxed finish for the whole time you own the car and can wash it with just a hose and a leaf blower :D

Totally worth it. It can get expensive if you are not doing it yourself, but even then it is worth every penny. Just make sure you use the right products when washing it to maintain the coating.

DON'T LET THE DEALER WASH YOUR CAR IF YOU HAVE CERAMIC COATING DONE

It depends if they have a touchless car wash or a brushed one. Avoid brushed ones like the plague. Touchless is *probably* OK intermittently (only the basic wash though, no waxes or other adders), but it's probably detrimental to the coating long term.

I had mine coated and a clear bra put on the front section. It looks great, and after a hand wash the paint looks good as new for a few weeks. Mine is outdoors most of the time and it's been a super wet summer so eventually the water drying takes some of the sheen away. Just make sure to use a good sealant every 3 months or so.

I just seen the mess that Mercedes made to a customers car at the installer I used yesterday.... destroyed the coating in patches!!! I don't want to find myself in that same situation.
but yes, touchless, no added extras... or just go over your car with a hose every week. So easy, my 2 year old did it for me yesterday

I just got mine ceramic coated yesterday for $200 from a mobile detailer. He works around the Richmond/Tidewater area of Virginia. His name is Michael Jackson too! HeeHee! If anyone wants his contact info, just PM me. He did a thorough job and even did the glass and wheels.

Only if you were local I would PM you in a heart beat and make an appointment to get my done with that kind of price. On another funny note a name like that is worth a try especially if you grow up in the Michael Jackson era.

Find a reputable, local detailer and discuss how you plan on maintaining a car. Coatings are great, but they need to be maintained properly. If you plan on keeping the car clean, don't store/park outside, coatings may not be worth it. If you happen to be in the Chicago area, I detail on the side (when the weather is better, closed for the season). Atleson Detailing Service

I applied my own ceramic coating for 2 or 3 years on my Mustang, which was a dark grey color. I found the gloss had a "glass like" shine rather than a "smooth" shine I would get from a synthetic wax. Overall, I was happy with the aesthetics and durability of the coating. I wouldn't call it as dust repellent as the companies state, mine had to be dusted pretty much daily to be considered spotless. My opinion is if you don't have detailing experience, you will not get the professional looking results you're hoping for. Unless your paint is flawless, the coating essentially locks in the flaws until it wears off, like scratches, etc.

I only applied a quick wax to the Stinger since it was constantly cold and below the recommended working temp of applying coatings. I intend to ceramic coat in the spring or summer 2019, mainly because I find the white attracts dirt and junk that pretty much takes clay to remove...the white seems very hard to keep spotless. I'm not sure if the Mustang hid a lot of this being a dark grey color, or if the ceramic really did help with repelling these sticky contaminants. I will be able to update next year once I have ceramic on the car and can evaluate the dirt repellency.

I have used Carpro Cquartz UK 2.0, and Carpro Cquartz Si02 with a Carpro Gliss top coat. The standard Cquartz with the Gliss topcoat had the best aesthetic appeal and excellent water repellency. I did notice there was an issue with dust sticking to the Gliss topcoat for a couple washes, then that subsided.

Not entirely happy with my ceramic coating, had it done 11 months ago and the beading affect appears to be a thing of the past and that deep shine I can't replicate. I had it done by a mobile work shop.

Do a hand wash and then use a sealant. It should come back.

Adding a sealant is just replacing the coating that has worn down. If the shop that installed the coating guaranteed a longer than 1 year lifespan, it might be worth bringing it up. In my opinion, if a coating says it lasts "up to 2 years," I wouldn't expect it to last longer than about a year under harsh conditions and heavy washing.

Please define "it", then I can give an honest assessment.

I put ceramic coating on myself for less than $75.00 and it was worth it. I would never pay what some folks have paid to have it done elsewhere.

What do you value more, time or money?
