Hi all, i researched a copy of a Kia Stinger Owner's Manual provided by a forum member, i believe this is an American Owner's Manual, in Section 5 Page 101, it explains this ISG system which also shows a button with a letter A to activate/deactivate the system, next to the front passengers heated/cooled seat button, and this model also has heated steering wheel which Australia doesn't get with the button next to the driver heated/cooled seat button, on an American left hand drive vehicle, according to videos i have seen also.
Australia will not have these features, but i and others i guess may like too know by any Stinger owner's who have this ISG sytem, how well it works and would appreciate your experience with it to share with us here on Stinger Forum.

The ISG is standard on all models/trims in Korea. It's always on by default, the button next to the heated/cool seat is to shut it off.

It works just like any other ISGs I tried (Audi, BMW, VW, Hyundai), nothing stands out. That might be a good thing. Then again, I just had the stinger for 2 days and a little over 100km with it. Can't really say much about it at this point - but it seems to work as it should. If anything, I might come back and give an update but so far so good.

Do you have specific questions on the ISG? I don't really know how to review/measure the performance of an ISG - if you could recommend me, I can try to go and measure it for you.

Thankyou for sharing your experience with ISG on your Stinger so far, your welcome to tell of your experiences with it at a later date, i now know Korea has this system on all models as you informed, and i believe the USA has it as well, not sure about Canada, i am interested to hear owner's opinion on this system, but also if any country has this as an option when you purchase the car, and then the car is built at the factory to order, the major question i have is why Australia missed out on this system, maybe our Stop and Go traffic here is not near as significant as it is in Korea and America considering the expanse of our land and relatively much smaller population?

Oh, I didn't catch that earlier about Australia not getting the ISG. That's a weird thing to do on Kia's side.

If I understand correctly the ISG was primarily designed to help the car safe fuel when on idle. Probably helps with engine noise while at idle also. Turning the engine on and off can be quite annoying if the car has somewhat of 'powerful' start - I know a lot of people who feel that the ISD is more of an annoyance than the fuel it saves.

Could it be that Australian drivers generally prefer the 'smoother' operations and a more immediate response off the line?

The option to be able to turn it on and off is nice, there are times when I want the ISG off, but mostly I like it on. I like that when I have to wait for a long light or when I am dropping off and picking up the kids from the myriad of activities they're involved in, I don't have to think about wasting gas or emissions. As Euljiro1ga said, it's strange that Kia removed this feature specifically for Australia. Since Australia got the first batch of exports, could it be that the feature wasn't quite ready yet? I don't know.

the major question i have is why Australia missed out on this system,

It's because the Aussies have so many more clues. I have it on one of my Volvo's and it drives me crackers. Has it's own idea although it is brainless - can't switch the default to 'Off" and when doing the pre drive checks (seat belt, wallet, etc) forget it once and it will stop every chance it gets. Absolute piece of crap and you don't want it on a turbo charged engine -

It's so much hated there is a device to turn it off -

I thank the Norse gods who left it out of one of my Volvo's and thank the Aussie engineers who have done the same apparently.

I completely agree with you, i do not need ISG or want it on my Aussie Stinger, just curious why Kia decided to not fit it on Australian models.

So the Aussie models DON'T have it? Fingers crossed that's true, as I pick mine up in 5 days and I just found out about this annoying feature in the Stinger.

Unfortunately, the Singapore models still have this feature by default... even though it is quite useless and most drivers don't like to have it... but more useful for the manufacturer to comply with the CO2 emission requirements....

If you have a heavy foot, ISG just gets in the way—from takeoff to cooling down the turbos. If you’re more of a laid-back driver it’s tolerable or even nice sometimes.

When it’s extremely hot out and I’m in stop and go traffic, I find that the A/C doesn’t function enough to keep me cool so I end up turning ISG off.

I find myself turning it off about half the time.

I hate the ISG system on mine.
If for some reason I forget to turn it off, the net result is some unfortunate language being used when it stalls at the first junction.

A very simple upgrade to this system would be to only let the engine stop when you are in a traffic queue, i.e. when the radar detects a car in front of you. And not when you are the first car in line at a T-junction without traffic lights!

My humble suggestion is to let us owners decided when we want ISG to operate. Update the software so that if i turn ISG off, it stays off even upon restarts and only works if i manually turn it back on.
