Hi,
I have recently noticed a clicking sort of noise as I turn the steering wheel on my GT. It is generally worse in the mornings, but can happen anytime...it’s very odd. Also and I think this may be normal, but thought I’d check with you guys, when moving and turning slowly, I hear a whine, like an electronic sort of whine - I’m wondering what this as well...any ideas?

Welcome to another Aussie.
If turning slowly it could be a diff noise. There's a TSB out on this to change the oil to a different grade so suggest you speak to your dealer.
Where are you located and tell us a bit about your ride.

Howdy. Hopefully your whining noise is just power steering normal. I can hear a remote "whine" when I slowly turn my wheel too. All power steering does that, in my experience.

"Clicking", well yes, I've had that too. In very used cars, and never paid it any attention. But in a brand new Stinger there should not be a clicking noise in the steering wheel, period.

I experience a creaking /clicking noise most days. Had the column removed and lubed during a service but didn't do anything.

As the vehicle is quite "flexy", over time the plastics become looser and joints become drier which exacerbates the noises. Some you are defective (e.g. diff whine, sunroof, boot), some arent (e.g. door creaks, centre console squeaks) and they can all be addressed to varying degrees.

No harm in getting the diff oil checked next time you drop it off but the whine is likely normal and any creaking is likely harmless and fixes (tightening / lube) are likely temporary unless you go DIY with felt to line the areas where things rub or make contact.

I've been experiencing the same issue for two to three years. The dealership has a hard time replicating the issue but they did once and say it is actually the rear rear control arms that is reverberating around to sound like the front. They also drove a 2022 GT2 and said the could replicate the issue with the brand new car, So this is not a warranty issue. I don't know if I totally agree and was thinking it is the driver side front strut mount but further investigation will be needed. So it sounds like contacting Kia will be the next step as this is unacceptable for a 4-year-old car and also a new car. @kiausa

Omg that video, if that was me and that wasnt resolved within a couple visits Id have to trade it in. That would drive me nuts. It actually sounds like plastic on plastic rubbing or something like the trim around the wheel is loose and rubbing against something.

I hear at least three noises; the *squelch* turning left only happened once in 17 seconds, the clickety sound seems like the only constant one: not sure how to describe the other(s) I'm sort of hearing. I'd be all over this in anger if they just blew it off with a lame-assed excuse like "reverberations from the rear", WTH!? It's got to be some ill fitment within the steering wheel, maybe something with the airbag (that was a source for somebody on here a while back).

Any updates on the noise? Cause and fix?

The dealership said because the rear control arm noise was recreated in a 2022 stinger, that it was not eligible for warranty and considered normal. Spoke with Kia, they told me I had to take it to the dealership and open a "tech line" and the dealership said I would have to leave it with them for 5 days. 5 days with no car and they offered no loaner.

how did you ended up fixing it? i have the same issue. mine is 2021 gt limited/gt2

You will need to have your local Kia dealer verify the problem, see if they will fix it under warranty, if not, have the dealer open a "tech line" with Kia USA to hopefully find a fix.

Hi all, well I first posted on this topic about 3 years ago. I have had the car for 5 years now and I think I know it pretty well. The creaking / clicking steering wheel noise seems to be getting worse. The dealer has never been able to identify what the problem is. It’s becoming very annoying now tbh. I’m sure it’s the centre hub, where the horn is, as when you move that around (and trying not to set the horn off), you can sort of replicate the noise. Is it possible to remove this Centre hub yourself?
Then, we’ve had lots of fun and games with the car frame freaking, mainly the left side and the sunroof. It’s been in numerous times and had all the door seals and new sunroof replaced. Still no difference! I’m going to keep the car as I really like it, but it’s a shame that these issues are not bring properly addressed.

Anything like this?
(8:25 into the video)

so painful, why did I watch that just before bedtime?

I am experiencing that grinding noise (starts in the video at 6th second) while moving steering wheel. Did anyone find out what causes this?

i'd check the slip ring and that blasted hyundai/kia steering coupler.
