I know of a single-owner 2018 GT2 AWD with slightly over 10,000 miles on it. I can buy it for $42500. A year ago, it would have been about $10K cheaper. Given supply chain issues and rising interest rates, what is the likelihood of the value dropping precipitously if I buy it. I wouldn't want to be in a negative equity situation should the economy tank and my job becomes at-risk. My intention is to keep the car until the wheels fall off (from old age, not hooliganism). Seeing how nothing is being done to fix the supply chain, or to lower interest rates, will used car prices continue to climb, as well as financing costs?

I have a 2012 Optima that had the engine replaced under the Class Action lawsuit. It's warranted forever as long as I own it and it's paid for. I certainly can keep it indefinitely, but I've been wanting a Stinger for a long time.

I can comfortably afford it, just apprehensive about paying so much more than just a short time ago. If I'm keeping it forever, perhaps any negative equity isn't an issue. I'm confident my job isn't truly at risk, but how many of us thought it would get this bad this fast?

Thanks in advance for any comments.

Is your attitude toward the car going to alter if it suddenly becomes "less valuable"? If you can afford it and you want it, buy it. The economy is a wild beast we must live with.

If you have a solid option with the Optima and that engine replacement, I would keep that and wait on the Stinger. Assuming that Kia is paid off, you can pocket that money and save it up for the possible 2023 Stinger or what's hopefully replacing it, the EV8 (rumored). Maybe throw a little cash into that Optima and make it one of a kind.

Take it from someone who just spent 60K for his Stinger in this ridiculous market. I only got it because supposedly it's the last year of the Stinger and I wanted it brand new without having to worry about how the previous owner drove it. I also had over 12K to put down and having that huge down payment makes a huge lifestyle difference. Looking forward, I know there's going to be a point (maybe sooner than later) I'm going to have to own an EV. Would be nice though if we could get the Stinger in an EV form. So, I'll be looking forward to the EV8.

If it’s a car you really want it and can afford get it. I agree with @MerlintheMad that this economy is a wild beast we must adjust and adapt too and pull what we can from it. You can always get it and refinance later for a cheaper rate down the road. Whatever you choose make sure it’s what you really want to do and can fit into your lifestyle and budget. Sending blessings and peace your way bro.

Stung! Finally have my GT2 AWD Stinger. So many things to set up to make it truly mine, but it has exceeded every expectation.

Good interest rate, very cheap 100,000 bumper to bumper extended warranty, and a good price considering the very low mileage.

Super happy with my find and that it stuck around long enough for me to move on it.

Are those aftermarket rims that were sold with it ?

Yes, plus Injen intakes, and Stinger script in place of Kia badge in rear. I can't believe it was still available for almost 2 weeks.
for sanity sake, post pictures under the hood, there may be more stuff done to it than just the intakes/wheels. Someone on Facebook a few weeks back got a certified used stinger with intakes, exhaust, BOV's, and a working JB4 that the dealer sold installed on the car. CERTIFIED. like wtf?

The fact that it was sold certified with a JB4 is pretty crazy. The market is so hot right now that a lot of dealers are probably willing to let a lot more slide, or something.

What was the final price/breakdown?

Those wheels really match the car nice.

This was not sold as CPO. I bought it from a Honda dealership. AFIK the intakes were a dealer installed option, but no proof of that. I don't think there's a JB4 installed, but happy that the intakes add about 20HP. Will check for other mods when I get the chance.

Was in response to the alibi about a different buyer

$42500 was the price. My finance rate was in the mid-4% range. They neither went up or down in price. Given that it is 4 years old, that would only leave 1 year of factory powertrain warranty remaining (but way more miles left than I would drive), I was considering an aftermarket warranty at that time. The fact that they included a 100,000 miles bumper-to-bumper warranty for under $15/mo was much cheaper and more convenient. The rear windows are tinted. The wheels and tires are replacements with very little wear. I don't think there's a BOV or OCC. Exhaust is stock. There seem to be no scratches or chips anywhere. I think it has a ceramic coating as it was still very clean after being hidden in the lot for several days.

I consider myself very fortunate. This seems like a very well cared for vehicle. I promise to do the same and enjoy it for a very long time!

How many years is the extended warranty? You're a long ways from 100,000 miles and most warranties are either/or (time and/or mileage, whichever is reached first).

More info:
  • Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06+ all-season rubber.
    • 245/35 R19 on the front
    • 285/30 R19 on the rear
  • TSW Clypse wheels (I think in a 19x9 size, but not yet confirmed)
  • Don't know any offset or toe/in/camber settings
  • No sign of BOV or Oil Catch Can
  • No piggyback system
  • No suspension mods
  • Unknown if spark plugs have been gapped and/or upgraded
I need to verify my speedometer is still accurate. Seems to be reading a little high, but that may be the optimist in me!
