So, I took my Stinger to the detailer, and they usually have an automatic wash (where it's on a belt) to wash the car first before they get waxing and buffing. But, when I showed up, the guy told me the car rides too low and the belt can damage the undercarriage, and claims it happened before with another Kia, so he insisted on hand washing the car. Anyone else run into this issue, or did the guy just con me into paying extra for a hand wash?

Isn't a hand job better than an automatic anyway?

Suppose it depends on their system and how low your car is. If stock, can't imagine it being a problem. Granted, if I ever take my car to a car wash, it would be a touchless system. Don't want swirl marks.

No way a stock stinger would get undercarriage damage.

Now the wheels. 19”s. Might get scuffed on the rails. That’s the only reason to avoid an auto wash (assume we are talking touchless)…

Avoid spinning brush washes at all costs for the sake of your paint.

automatic car wash ? wtf . do your self a favor and part out now.

Jsolo, as you mentioned, a hand job is always better! LOL.

Same. Touchless auto wash/wand only in the winter and 2 bucket method in the summer. On the rare occasion a vehicle goes to the dealer, I specifically ask them to NOT wash the car.

I’ve found that if I apply the McGuire’s car soap to my naked body and gently rub it on the car, it will prevent swirl marks. Unforturnaly, other fluid stains seem to appear randomly.

Still looking for the cause.

Because f’n Stinger…

If I just want a quick wash, there is a car wash near me that uses Lammscloth and low RPM rollers.

Just give it a go and let’s us know how was it.

When you say "belt"

I can't see how the conveyor belt would damage any car, regardless of height.

Never heard such a thing before. Now, as said, the high aspect ratio tires bring the rims below the guide rail height: and I have come a cropper several times and had my left wheel(s) scuffed up. It has been over two years since I sent my car through a tunnel: never again. I will let the dealer wash my car occasionally: they do it by hand.

That's a torture chamber for paint, might as well throw a few buckets of sandy water on it and drive it through a meadow of thornbushes.

I was referring to the conveyor belt, not the foam brushes.
