Weird click sound when I press the brake for the first time

Mine does the same thing on non-oem pads. Pretty much the same problem. Thought maybe it was my eibach bars, but, whatever.
Same I thought it was the bars too but I don’t think it is. The sound is kind of annoying though. I would like it fixed.

*click" *clack* *clunk* - pick one (hopefully only one) :P

My front Eibach has been on for a year. About two weeks after it was put on I started hearing creaking noises from the front, going over our gutter or speed bumps, in other words, at slow speeds. When I get annoyed by them enough, I get out the spray silicone again: that knocks most of the creaking back for a while.

A question @Boogetsbizzy : how long into your ownership did this "click" start? You haven't shared any of your Stinger history, so we have no way of knowing how long this noise and its potential cause have been happening since you got your Stinger.

My bars haven’t given me any issues so far and it’s been a good month or so. I’ve have had the car for three months now. Bought it at 3500 miles, at 6000 right now. I feel like once I added the mods and started really pushing the car is when I started to notice the click noise. I’m 100% sure it wasn’t there when I first got the car. It’s a 2021 awd gt2

@MerlintheMad Didn't the sways come with silicon grease to apply between bar and the two front/rear bushings?

@OP, if this was my car, I'd pull all the wheels off and closely inspect the pads for play. My guess is one (or more) isn't sitting well in the caliper or has a minute amount of movement. I would expect this to be easily replicated by going opposite direction after it makes the clicking sound. You would be surprised how little play can translate into a felt click or clunk. If I found nothing, I'd then pull the calipers and inspect how well the pads sit, especially the inboard pads (which can not easily be seen from the outside without caliper removal).

You could also enlist the help of a helper. Have them stand near each corner of the car as you shift from D/R, release brake completely then reapply. This would help narrow down which wheel it's happening at.

Last fall rear wheel bearings got done on the old car. Dealer claimed to have done both sides although only one was making the howling noise. Jacked up @ss end of the car and pulled both wheels off. Sure enough both sides had new bearings. What they didn't do was apply a thin coating of grease between the hub bore and brake rotor (to prevent rust/lip from forming). Can't get everything.

Yes. And the bushings have those refill nipples. I've had the service guys look to make sure nothing was loose or ungreased. I'm not the only one: at least two other forum members have observed their Eibach front bar "creaking". I think that on ECS vehicles, at normal, higher speeds the suspension is stiffened to meet those higher speeds: at parking lot negotiating speeds the ECS is basically OFF, which allows the flex that produces the creaking. Anyway, since I don't hear any creaking while on the highway, it's not bothering me. The benefits of the Eibach front sway outweigh some annoying creaking at slow speeds.

Hey guys I was wondering if anyone has had this problem. So every time I start my car and press the brake for the first time I get a click sound. It doesn’t happen again until I turn off the car and restart it again, then press the brake for the first time. I can’t tell you when it started and I don’t think it’s the eiback front sway bars. Any suggestions or causes of the sound? Thanks!
Hey there, I have a 2021 GT 2 and I have the same sound as you are describing. I have tried to research the cause on the internet and have not found any answers. Have you found any answers since you posted this concern?

I actually haven’t messed around with getting to it yet. My mechanic and the dealership said it’s not a problem that I should be completely worried about. After showing my mechanic what people have said on here, he believe it’s just a fitment issue. I have upgraded rotor and brake pads so I was just going to throw them on when it’s time. Next oil change I’ll get my mechanics to check the fitment. Let me know if you figure anything out as well!

What’s up! So I didn’t get to the issue. After showing my mechanic what people have said in this topic he thinks it’s a fitment issue. I spoke briefly to someone from a dealership and he thinks I shouldn’t be too concerned since braking is working as intended. I have some aftermarket rotor and brakes ordered so I was going to swap them when it’s time. Next time I’ll get an oil change I’ll have my mechanic check out the fitment. Let me know if you have any updates as well!

I have this same issue after I switched to aftermarket pads and rotors (I did the install a few months ago - R1Concepts OEp pads)
Believe it's happening on front driver's side
Mainly happens after I reverse the car and brake, then first time i brake going forward is a click or sometimes a light clunk
Checked suspension and wheel bearing seems fine nothing loose or flopping about

I removed wheel to check the pads and pins look fine nothing looks out of place and pad and clip looks aligned correctly
Brakes work fine with no grinding noises and good stopping power

Based on what I looked up online apparently this is fairly common, sometimes with aftermarket pads not having as stringent fitment vs oem possibly
or when braking when in reverse the pads shift a bit
then going forward and braking pads may shift slightly again which is why this low click sound happens

Hopefully we can find a solution. It’s definitely an annoying sound and it shouldn’t be there.

I am like 80% sure i know whats going on, cus its happening with my car. I believe its the brake shims that close that distance between the pads and calipers. The reason the sound only happens when switching from drive and reverse (i.e. getting in and out of parking) is because once you hear that click, thats the sound of the pads reseating to the calipers.

Look up ‘brake shim clunk’ on youtube and verify for yourself.

Also see attached with a better explanation.

interesting
i thought it may have been the holes on the top of the pads that the caliper pins go thru that may be off vs eom hole specs causing this

the aftermarket pads i used has 'built in rubber shims' so they claimed there is no need to use the EOM ones.
wierd tho for me its only one side on the front that has this issue
I did the rear pads first and there was no clicking noise everything was fine
it only started after i replaced the front pads and seems to be only on the driver's side

maybe i'll try to put the oem shims (those thin metal sheets) on my aftermarket pads up front since i still have those laying around
see if that gets rid of that occasional clicking noise

Anyone know if those thin oem metal shims are sold separately? or if its available only when you buy the oem pads?
would rather buy a new pair than reuse the old ones

Yeah most pads should have built in shims but its hard to design for every brake caliper. If the rears are fine that might be cus the calipers are different sizes. I could be wrong though

My car makes the noise that happens at the 42 second mark in this video. Not sure how to ever describe the sound but like a creak or quick groan??

Brake noise

Sounds like the noise made when engaging the drivetrain.

Just chiming in to report my aftermarket Powerstop replacement pads click the first time used in reverse/forward as others have described. I looked online after hearing it and confirmed the same, just enough 'play' in some aftermarket pads that they shift into position in each direction the first time used and that's the clunk sound heard.

Zero other braking issues or noises. Best upgrade I've done for the car, anyone else on OE pads should consider swapping.

It only occurs after a start and just once... so far anyways.

I just did a brake search and it looks like this is the first post of its kind lol. I didn’t see any suggestions on a fix. Is it something as simple as tweaking the fitment? Like you said I don’t need to worry about it now but I would like it looked at next time I get a oil change or something like that.

edit I think you’re saying after market pads may fix the issue right.
My car does the same thing. Drivers side front left, as soon as you shift from reverse to drive, just like yours, though mine is more of a crunch noise, and it only happens once. Consistently. every time. I have aftermarket pads but stock rotors. its annoying because it sounds like somethings broken.

mine does it too , with hawk pads and centric rotors ..idk but every morning it clicks once ..

Like in post #32 i still think its probably the brake shims, plenty of youtube videos on it if you want to confirm the noise
