Hey everyone! :) Friends and members! :p

My friend (without me knowing until last night) told me he wanted to get for me a Borla Catback as a belated birthday gift. I'm grateful but am unsure of a few things. He was asking which website to purchase the exhaust from; although I told him I am not sure if he should buy it for me. Truth be told I am getting offers on Vroom and Carvana for my Stinger that are only a few hundred dollars short of what I paid out the door for my car. Between the cash offers from Vroom or Carvana and the settlement check from Kia it looks like I could easily sell my Stinger for a profit of several grand. Just my luck right? Or perhaps this is major inflation? I digress. He insists on getting me the exhaust and tells me that push comes to shove I can just sell it if I do decide to flip my car in the future.

My question is this:

If I put on a Borla Catback exhaust, with or without tips, is it going to be a pain in the butt to bring it back to stock on the Stinger? What if there are exhaust tips added (Borla or a different brand)? I know it's a noobish question but the exhaust layout on the Stinger is different than my WRX was (no fake tips or vents and the exhaust laid right in the open without the rear bumper getting in the way). Is there any damage or risk with getting the exhaust and tips removed back to stock? What would be a good way to store both the stock exhaust and tips and aftermarket exhaust and tips? How badly would a Borla catback depreciate in value if only used for maybe 1k or 2k miles? Do people buy stock Stinger exhausts and exhaust tips?

Thank you everyone! :D I know it's a long post but I greatly appreciate it! :D

I put my MBRP on by myself in my garage on ramps (before I lowered my car. Can't get it on ramps now). Took a few hours, but it wasn't too difficult. Putting it back to stock is the same process. I just keep my stock exhaust in my basement. You'll just have the 2 mufflers and the mid pipe that you'll need to store somewhere.

I'm not sure how much value the exhaust will lose. Because of the size, they're difficult and expensive to ship if you want to sell, so keep that in mind. The chances of selling your stock exhaust or tips are very low, so I wouldn't count on that happening.

Biggest piece of advice: don't waste your money on Borla Tips. They're $1000 and they don't even connect to the exhaust. They just go in place of the stock tips. AliExpress tips are under $200 shipped and they connect to the exhaust, which carries the sound out from under the car, reducing drone.

BTW, what is the settlement from Kia? Did you slip and fall at a dealership

1st off does your friend need any more friends? Cause I got a birthday coming. As you know I do not have a gt but, Everything I have seen and read and so on Install and removal should be no issue. It's just a matter of whether or not you want to do it multiple times. And if you are really considering getting rid of your car. That would be the biggest question. As for resale I know I bought a used axle back system for mine. At the end of the day its going to depend on what somebody is willing to pay. As for selling the stock, I'm sure there is a market. A lot of people keep them and put him back on before they sell their car that way they can recoup some money back on the money they put out to make ther car their own. Just my thoughts.

Agree with Deviate..keep the OE in the garage (that’s what I did). Plug the openings so nothing “moves in”. Swap it back out if you decide to sell the car and recoup some of the investment if possible.

Buy the exhaust @ K8stingerstore. David is awesome and ships fast!

Thanks for the reminder!! Gotta cover my holes.

The part I put in bold in your quote genuinely made me crack up out loud. Kia sent me a check for breach of warranty due to my brake problems. I'm not allowed to go into much more detail than that but the problem was out of control. After investigating they realized the issue was not driver error but a much bigger problem than just pads/rotors and whether it's Euro-spec or USA-spec parts being used. :coffee:

I'll make sure to store my stock parts properly. If someone comes along to buy it then great. If not then no worries. How tough was putting on the exhaust tips or it was just the catback exhaust you did?

Why would Borla exhaust be so expensive if they do not do anything to help combat the drone? Are these AliExpress Exhaust Tips superior? How hard are they to connect? I would love to have the Borla catback but I don't want the drone to ruin the car as a daily driver.

Thank you so much btw!! :)

Haha my friend is my best friend. We've known each other since 2014 right after he came to this country. We became very close after I saved one of his family member's from a bad accident. I see him as my older brother and his family as my own.

Perhaps it is best to keep the stock/OEM parts then...

Thank you btw friend!

Sounds good! I will definitely do that then! :D Thank you friend! :)

Oh my! ;) :p

If you don't mind me asking, what would you replace the Stinger with @WRXtoStingerGT ?
Naaa I don't mind! I am an open book! :D

I don't want to sell the Stinger since it's the nicest car ever but if it's the smart choice then I'll go for it. I could afford the Stinger not because I have a high paying job but because I have saved my money for a long time. I'm not ashamed to admit that. If I sell the Stinger it's to both make a little bit of money and also save a bit of money in the future.

If I had to replace the Stinger I would probably go with another WRX or Sti or maybe even a Type-R or Veloster-N or maybe a GTI. Something stick, light, cheap, and easy to work with. A smaller car too since parking is tough in this big car and I'm used to much smaller vehicles. I'm possibly considering a Accord 2.0T or Camry V6 of some flavor as well. Might get a used IS350 or RC350 perhaps? Not sure yet. The business I work for is having some problems and although I have a good amount of money saved I am trying to break into a deeper career path in IT which takes time and means possibly losing income for a bit or lowering income for a bit.

But it's all good in the hood! :D

OH MY GOSH I FORGOT TO REPLY TO YOU!

I'm really sorry!

You mean this exhaust correct? Kia Stinger 3.3T - Borla S-Type Exhaust

It's nice to see that it is free shipping.

Are there any discounts for forum members? Do they sell exhaust tips besides Borla? I want exhaust tips that can help reduce drone not just cosmetic stuff. How bad is the Borla catback drone/volume wise with stock tips?

Yes hit him up on the discounts

I just have the cat back with stock tips. I'm not sure why the Borla tips are so expensive. They look cool, but the price is insane. The aliexpress tips attach via clamps to the outlets of the mufflers. 63x105, which are oval shaped, will fit in through the rear diffuser perfectly. Just put them on before you install the mufflers. Glad to help!

Sweet! :D

But you would say stock tips with a Borla catback is perfectly fine? Car sounds nice and aggressive but the drone is not too bad? Is the car too loud on a cold start that the house shakes? Don't want my parents in law killing me! :p

I've never heard the borla in person, but from what vI've read many times, its louder than the MBRP. I have no problems with drone with the MBRP and stock tips. I used to live in a duplex and I know my car vibrated the house a bit on cold starts. My neighbors never complained, so it wasn't that bad, but they did say they always knew when I was leaving.

Also, i mentioned 63x105 before. That will fit MBRP but I don't think it will fit the borla. The "in" side of the tips will need to be smaller. not sure what size exactly, but I know its on the forum.

Cool-I looked at many of those choices, too! I'm now kinda interested in the new turbo Outback...

Very surprised you wouldn't jump on an offer like that after having all the issues with the brakes and dealership experience in Yonkers. I have borla cb and ark dps - the first time I drove it from the mechanics I thought I made a mistake lol
Car is obnoxiously loud at low rpm in regards to drone - noncar plp will hate you, and rasps when flooring it. Cold start up is brutal if you are trying to be unnoticed. Started to enjoy it a bit more as weeks passed and volume/noise changed somewhat - still too much drone though. Not crazy loud when I drove behind in another car to my surprise --- bc of the fake exhaust tips.
I installed tips a cpl months later - noise is pushed out back instead of underneath the car, initially I thought it was a night and day difference as far as reducing drone, 100% stopped rasp. Today I think some of the initial drone came back somehow but overall satisfied with the setup, cold starts in the am are still brutal but enjoyable. Burble noise when slowing from 30 down and downshifting with paddles - in comfort and sport. When launching the car does pop sometimes, depends on IAT I think.
Can't say how just getting a borla cb would sound but I would definitely stay away from borla and ark dps w/o new tips.
I would have installed the exhaust myself but had nothing to lift the car. Took the mechanic an hour I think.
I put the exhaust tips on with the mechanic and that took 20 minutes.

David was really nice and did offer me a discount, however Autohance beat the price and charged no tax (hard to beat) with next day delivery (side effect of Vegas to Phoenix)

The base price has gone up, this was like 1-2 weeks ago.

To each their own. :) If I go back to Subaru it will be probably a WRX CVT. As much as I would love to drive stick again my gf doesn't want to learn and we've already been in a situtation where she had to move the car when I was not present. Better safe than sorry. Plus automatic is a lifesaver in the city. I look back at the ten years I spent driving stick in DC or NYC traffic and am astonished I made it through completely sane! :p

I am leaning towards selling my car. Doing the math the flip would be fantastic for me financially. I am reluctant to sell my car before June/July though since my gf and I are planning to drive down to Florida very soon. If I make the sale I would rather it be done in Florida so that I can also pick up a car down there (it's cheaper for me to buy a car in FL than NY) and not feel out of my element.

If I do keep the car then I will get the Borla Catback for sure. Tips do not reduce the sound/volume of the exhaust itself but only reduce the drone heard from inside the vehicle correct? Thank you btw!! :)

Great! Thank you! Will screenshot and send this to my buddy. I will make sure to reach out to David after my trip. I am still reluctant but will see. Appreciate it! :)

Just my thoughts...it really sounds like you should just flip your ride. Yes it sounds like you like your stinger and realize what can be done to tune it out. Which you have done before according to your posts. Im sure you have a sour taste due to the issues you had with your ride. That would push most away from keeping anything. You stated you already know that getting a car down here is cheaper, obviously you've been doing research to be sure. What keeps pushing you back to the side of "well ill keep it"? When reading between the lines (for me) is that its time to move on for you. Hopefully that made sense

Sound is reduced, definitely the ear piercing rasp. By no means is it quiet. A lot louder than stock still.
