Have you tried Carvana and those types of websites? I just got an estimate on what I think is your car and Carvana quoted $25,361 in my zipcode.

Or you can just keep the car for longer.

Did you do a bunch of mods to yours?

Which trim do you have? 22k wouldn't be terrible, I think, if we're talking GT-line (with lease buyout incentives and negotiation), you probably could have picked one up for around ~28k.

For people who got large lease incentives and bought out in 2019/2020, they probably had a ton of equity after the first year of ownership. Carvana is quoting about $42500 for a GT2 AWD in my zipcode right now and I know many people were getting them for less than that a year ago!

Yeah I bought mine used. 2018 AWD GT2 with 17k miles. Sticker new was $54k, I bought it towards the end of 2019 for $36k. $18k drop. I love buying new (00 Grand Prix, 03 Murano, 04 Titan, 08 Altima, 12 Roush Mustang, 17 Sonata all purchased new), but I’ve learned unless you plan on keeping them for a really long time to find a nice yr or two old car and let the prior owner take the hit.

But that may have been a very low cost of ownership for the person who bought new if they got a good discount and did a lease buyout!

yeah exactly. sticker 54k new, but 2018 gt2 lease incentives maxed out at over 10k. throw in another few thousand off thru negotiation, and a brand new 2018 gt2 could have been purchased for around 40k, which makes it, for the original owner, only a 4k drop in price, if the original owner did all their research and took advantage of every possible discount they could have gotten.

sad lease incentives are in the gutter now :(

Dealerships vary a lot in trade in value - learned firsthand. At that price I would definitely sell privately for more $ or keep it.

I got 4k off my 2021, and a 0% apr for 72 months. If you plan to sell any car in 2 years don't buy it

So, I have to say, OP’s car seems to have depreciated very little once I do the calculation. He says $22k is 40%, which would put MSRP around $37k. If he sold it to Carvana for $25k as I suggested, that would be a residual of about 68% at three years. That is actually quite good for a mid sized luxury-ish sedan! Of course, if he paid MSRP and takes a low trade then the ownership cost is high at $15k over three years, so I would see his frustration.

I have never bought a used one.

Buying or selling a car is never in your best financial interest lol.
Normally I would 100% agree with you. However, these are not normal times. The online dealers are offering STUPID amounts for Stingers right now. Just too good to pass up on.

I've literally never traded in a car. We keep our cars for a long time usually. The Mrs drives a 2016 75th Anniversary Jeep Grand Cherokee. We bought it new it only has 25k on it, doesn't get used nearly enough now that she works from home. She's kinda bored with it and wants to look at either a new Chevy Blazer or a new Telluride. Whichever way she decides to go, this will be the 1st car that we trade in.

I’m the same way. I usually keep my cars about 11 or so years before I get another one. Of course if I wait that long, there might not be much of a selection of combustion cars available when I look again.

Wow, yeah you may be right. I already feel like I'm a outlier, I have a low, sporty, awd vehicle and a rwd pickup that I store in the winter. People at work with their boring cookie cutter cuvs don't know what to think of me.
