Kia quality, two words that should never be used together.

I was so caught up in what an ass I had been I forgot to elaborate about what was found out about the paint. The repair shop and dealer both thought it was under the clear coat, it was when I noticed the spots on the sunroof that the repair shop said, wait a second. So it appears to be residue from the soap they used when they ran it through a brushed. . .bastards. . . car wash when they sold it to me.

The repair shop asked me to pick a spot and used some type of compound and easily removed it, he also said not to use that compound as it would be to rough on the finish and suggested using a clay bar. They don't easily come off with the clay bar but of course you don't want to scrub the hell out of your car with the bar. I am waiting till I have some time off and will just hit the spots with the bar and then wax it after.

ok.. so yours wasn't really a defect.
Mine is under the clear coat which Kia selected bodyshop made a quote to repaint my entire vehicle and Kia approved the repair.
I've been waiting to get a call from regional manager to schedule a repair....but I'm not sure if I like the idea of repainting the entire vehicle..and I also don't like these defects..

Dealer, collision repair shop and a third person who details cars. But thanks for your input Mr. General

As so many people made errors in identifying what the problem was I would make sure its not the same problem if your spots look the same. Milky bluish metallic and most easily seen in indirect lighting. You could rub the spot all you wanted with a microfiber and it did nothing, you could not feel anything either with your hand or the clay bar for that matter.

Rule number one when buying a new car. Ask the dealer to not wash it.

Good ol' dealer-installed swirls.
Took me hours to polish mine out.

Good on you for the apology. Merlin has thick skin, one does not get to 10k posts without a few.....disagreements.

It's funny how things happen. Admittedly, I was kind of a dick to Janguli (sorry about that :lipsaresealed:...I have anger issues I think Lol ) about the dash and paint issues he had and today I was waxing the car and noticed 2 spots in the center of the hood that looked EXACTLY like the picture of the paint issue he posted:eek:. I tried getting them off with soapy water, detailer, even goo gone and nothing. I would've sworn they were under the clear coat. Then, I thought of Westcoasts "does it all" recommendation and pulled this stuff out.

10 seconds later and Viola...Gone! Whew...thanks Westy! Btw welcome to the forum Janguli. Most of us have had an issue or two we had to resolve with the car. It's not perfect but it's pretty damn close. Once these minor issues are behind you, you'll have one amazing car on your hands . Great community here...it's a good place to be.

No worries, thanks for the advice and the welcoming. To be clear, I do love to drive my car and think its a beautiful design.

According to the J.D. Power 2020 Initial Quality Study, Kia finished in first position for the sixth year in a row setting the benchmark for quality among all new vehicle brands. So maybe Kia and quality are two words that can be used together after all.
NOTE: Funny to see Tesla debuted in last place. And Land Rover was just in front of them. Good to see they are leading the bottom of the pack as usual. Why would anyone buy one of these overpriced pieces of junk?

I just find it pathetic this is the level of quality control coming out of them.

While Hyundai/KIA are making strides in their own right, you can't be surprised by them. I own a KIA and I know I bought a KIA. I may share your frustration in the future but I've only had mine for a week. So far so good.

In summary I regret buying this POS. I will never buy another Kia and will make sure anyone thinking about buying such a piece of trash knows better.

And now I will STFU.

Your opinion is important to you, but not the masses. Although I chuckle at the "severity" of your issues, and your response, I wish you good luck in finding your next, and perfect, car.
Read through the whole thread: @Janguli apologized and all is forgiven. :)

Just another story where the car gets blamed and not the dealer. Should change the title to dealer quality.

So many of these threads are just dealers having no idea how the f*ck to handle an enthusiast, or an enthusiast's car. Kia put out such a great product and the dealerships are making them look much, much worse than they should. Amazing car, terrible dealerships.

But should the buyer have to repair his new car to make it so?

Some issues won't be noticed during initial delivery or test drives. For example I didn't realize how effd up my cruise control is until my drive home. I suppose I could have used the cruise control during the test drive but I didn't think it was a potential problem area. I also didn't notice or didn't have the hatch rattle until a few weeks after bringing the car home. And come to think of it there's no excuse for Kia to still be shipping cars with rattles that were identified and TSBd in the first few months of the first U.S. model year. No 2020 Stingers should have hatch rattles that Kia has been aware of since late 2017.

I may be in the minority but I believe his anger is warranted. Maybe he shouldn't direct it at the entire Kia/Stinger lineup but if I were in his shoes my Stinger honeymoon phase would certainly be over.

Speaking similarly, I have a 2020 and the hatch rattles. I definitely didn't notice on the test drive and didn't notice until getting home and doing some of my normal daily commute driving. Either that or somehow the hatch bumpers have "settled in" somehow.
I have had the misfortune of having my Dynamic Headlights becomes statically aligned to the left (like the right headlight is almost pointing to the middle of the lane) after only having the car 6 months without a fix after 2 tries (and that's with reported contact with Kia's tech line). Waiting on a good time to take in for try #3 along with some now really jerky downshifting in all drive modes, after only 3000 miles. The "premium line" is active, although the last rep I contacted for my headlight woes said "I don't know what the premium line is, this is the normal consumer line." Previous contact I tried through that line though didn't mention any similar thing.

It's interesting the mixed bag you can get when buying a car. I have a 2018, so one of the earlier ones they built, and there are always teething problems when building an entirely new car. But I've had no issues with it other than the auto stop/start not working and I suspect that's because of the battery. But I see people with 2018's and even newer models that have rattles and things like that. I guess it's just luck of the draw sometimes.

That’s one system which I’m sure you wouldn’t mind not working. We don’t even get it in the Aussie cars.
