Kia Stinger 2019...problems fixed yet?

Hey guys and gals,

Do any of you own a 2019 Kia Stinger? Did Kia fix all the 2018 issues yet? The ones I've read about were the faulty engine/passenger wiring, the rattles in the cabin/hatch back area and the cracking/flacking of the paint on certain colors...recently I just read that there is a big problem with warped brake rotors as well. I was seriously thinking about getting a new 2019 Stinger GT but if the warped brake rotors issue hasn't been fixed yet, then I may need to reconsider.

not sure about the 2019 model. I own the 2018 model, it had the paint issue near the front light and under the emblem and also brought it in for the faulty passenger wiring recall. both got covered by KIA.

Good to hear...did it take long for them to fix? How long was it in the shop for?

2019 GT2 Solid! I have been abusing the car pretty bad on empty road in central florida for several weekends no brake problems, the car is amazing dude!

Hatch rattle was experienced in my MY19 Stinger but no other issues yet (having it since December)

Only issue I have right now is the rotors are starting to tap (warp). This is a known recall so shouldn't be any problem.

it's not a warped rotor, it's brake deposits on US spec models from the US spec brake pads we got. There's a sticky with a how to to burn them off.

Good to hear...did it take long for them to fix? How long was it in the shop for?

Sorry for the late reply. The repaint of the bumper took awhile since the color was difficult to match (ceramic silver/ghostgrey) - 2/3 weeks I think? Got a rental car covered by KIA. As for the faulty recall, was done within half a day, took it in during my oil change.

Your topic pushes my main Stinger Forum button: issues incidence. People come here to complain about something. I found this place after I'd had my car for over two months. And the reason why I found this place is because I had curb rashed my front rims and wanted to find a "best way" to fix the damage. In a Google search for that specific issue, I saw this forum listed and joined. C. a week into membership, I saw two threads on paint issues (the second one faded into obscurity over time, the first one continues to gather respondents to the present time; and has a poll); I have no paint issues with my Stinger, but I participate in the discussions about paint issues because I am sympathetic and interested: however, fully 95% plus of forum members could care less, so it seems: as only just less than 5% of our well over 6K members have bothered to notice and participate in the discussion of others problems (with paint). This tells me that fewer than 3% of Stinger owners have paint issues. We are for the main part enthusiasts; and we notice things about the Stinger (our Stinger) that rankle. So if less than 3% of the forum's members have said they have paint issues, this means that the general Stinger population with paint issues is even less than that; or else they'd have gone looking on the Net and found this place right pronto (at the very top of a Google search).

And paint issues are the biggest issue incidence-wise. Hatch rattle comes in second, other extraneous noises in total are third; and brakes are fourth. Everything else is even less numerous, often once-offs on the forum and not mentioned again. The upshot is that the Stinger is a largely trouble-free first and second year model. There are not "issues needing to be fixed" with the Stinger. Not a one. The model did not and does not get noticed because of a given issue plaguing or typifying the car. What gets noticed is everything done well with it; which is impressively a lot. All the boxes I wanted in a GT are checked with the Stinger. That individual vehicles get this or that issue is inevitable; and 99% of them get fixed by Kia under warranty. Go forth and buy! Your chances of a "perfect" car are vastly greater than one with anything wrong with it. I've had mine for over a year and over 17.5K miles and have not had a single thing fail or start to look poor in the paint or fitment, etc.

Warped rotors were a problem on my 2019 Stinger Gt right around 11,000mi. I started to notice it. I didn't take it in until 15,000. Although they warranty the rotors up to 12,000 they were kind enough to resurface them for me at the time. I hadn't heard about so many other Stingers having issues which leads me to believe they need to put different rotors on for those of us who are putting the car through its paces

I have a 19... No issues with the paint yet, but I was aware of the delicate nature of it and put PPF on the front half of the car, and wax it quarterly.

I've noticed the brake issue but I do the rotor rebedding trick and it goes away. I'll be moving to better pads when they're ready to be replaced. Probably StopTechs.

The sunroof rattles. Started around 10,000 miles and I'm at 14k now. I'm taking it in tomorrow to hopefully fix that, the work will be done under warranty... I also have the hatch rattle which I'm fixing myself when I have time.

2019 stinger here, brakes are solid, paint is solid and no wiring harness recall.
The interior noises I’ve experienced have not been solid though and I’ve had to fix them through the application of felt tape to different areas and applying rubber grease to the weatherstripping. Also I had a trunk rattle that I addressed with the help of other write ups on this forum.
I’d say find the exact stinger you want and drive it over some rougher roads to make sure it’s solid and quiet.

All is fine and dandy with my 2019 GT2 AWD.
The only "issue" I have is the first minute or so of operation, the brakes squeal presumably because they're cold. They don't squeal any other time.

As I mentioned in my thread, my ECU went out 7000 miles and little over a year in, a 2018 GT2.... big disappointment. Yes, warranty repair but does now speak well for KIA.

We had a hatch latch that would not stay latched, but Kia fixed it by installing a new one so was no big deal. Of course, we just bought the car a month ago. I will be taking it up to Cambria and then on a drive up Hwy 1 through Big Sur on Thursday. so it will be interesting to see if anything shakes out from a real test drive. At my age, I do not expect we will be pushing it beyond 75% of max, but the car was not purchased for track use. I do not even drive my Corvette anywhere near the limit.

I agree with others that it is important to keep a perspective on a car's "issues" and then judging whether it is a good car. All cars have some issues and most effect just a few examples. My Corvette has had torque tube rattle, gas smell filling garage from leaky fuel pump tube, and other minor things resulting in recalls. Front tire wear has been a major problem due to the aggressive alignment that needs to be dialed back for street use. This lesson learned ended up costing me a few grand before I got the right combination of tires and alignment dialed in. Leaking/rattling removable roof sections have plagued Corvettes for years, although I never have had a problem with mine. Go on the C6 Corvette forum and you will find many more issues, too. All of mine were fixed at no cost to me by Chevrolet. My car now has 61K miles and it is virtually trouble free.

Then there are the catastrophic engine failures with Porsches that are well documented. My BMW M Roadster from 2001 nearly stranded me due to bad coil packs, but again, BMW replaced all of them for free under a recall. So here's the deal, all cars have issues that plague a few examples, including those with the highest reputations for excellence. And forums will highlight the worst of them, which is good for those of us who own them because we can go to the dealer and share our knowledge so problems can usually be remedied. When my Vette showed symptoms, I showed up at the dealer with service bulletin numbers and they sheepishly admitted that the problems were likely covered and they were fixed at no cost to me. Let us all keep reporting the issues we find, but let's not decide the Stinger is not a great car because a few may have occasional issues.

Let's see: 2019 with 5500 miles. So far, rattling sunroof and the 360 camera was out of alignment. Both issues were taken care of by the dealer, no charge. The back hatch will rattle over a big bump, but it happens so rarely it hasn't motivated me to do anything about it. That's been it for me so far.

Those things might have been slight annoyances, but overall I really enjoy the car. Well worth the price of admission IMHO.
