I'm not sure "discoloring" is the right word here. The "black" in the "black chrome" appears to be burning off. It started with a little spot and has grown week by week.

I chalked it up as a water spot, but it's apparent this is actually a finish issue. It seems like it could be UV damage, though I'm honestly unsure.

Has anybody ever seen this before?

Nope just give it a good clean with some spray dealer and buff off straight away.

Interesting. Your's looks more like a dirty oxidation and mine looks like the tint they spray on the chrome is coming off.

I'll try spray wax tonight and see if it changes any. It's cresting 100*F here in Atlanta everyday so I'm shocked the tires aren't melting

Did you have your car, paint corrected?

Perfect opportunity to swap with the carbon fiber one or wrap it black.

Turn that frown upside down homie.

Yes, paint corrected and ceramic coated. I think I know where you are going with this and I agree with you...

Ok, wanna share?

I assume when they were performing the paint correction the buffing pad touched the chrome, removing the "black chrome" coating and revealing the chrome part.

My car was royally screwed up by the dealer. They swirled the paint and improperly applied a glass coating so the entire car had a 2 week long paint correction done to it.

I might just order the CF piece. Either that or just try to wrap it...I'll take the beautiful paint and this over the entire car looking horrid

Agreed, if it's beyond repairs, wrapping or replacing with the CF is the best choice. I haven't seen this specific OEM part for sale. But you may fall into the trap of all your other chrome parts peeling and having to do the same. It can get costly.

I shall replace them as they fail! It honestly doesn't really bother me. I could care less. It's been months since I gotten the paint correction and coating done so the shop might say "too late" or something. Not really worth my time to be honest

That is exactly what I was going to say.
Have seen it on cars I've fixed mistakes on from previous paint corrections.

I have the same thing on all the black chrome -- I am speaking with my dealer about replacing all the black chrome. Looks pretty crappy!

Damnation! I see a slowly building number of imperfections on the lower grill chrome from road debris. Nothing on the upper grill. There are a few minor flaws in the mirror cups too, same cause. The PPF installer says he avoids putting PPF on dark chrome, because later when the PPF needs to come off, he's seen the dark chrome wrinkle or peel sometimes.

I feel for you guys, any experienced detailer should know well enough to tape off all trim when doing paint correction.

Can you post a photo of what yours looks like?
