Convince me to buy a Stinger 2.0T

Hello all! I know by posting this in a forum all about Stingers, I'm going to get some biased replies, but that's kind of the point!

I have been shopping the Honda Accord 2.0T Touring for a while, and I have been pretty convinced its the right car, but now that the 2018 Stinger 2.0T Premium has come down in price quit a bit, its about the same price as an Accord. I LOVE how the Stinger looks and drives, but there are some features in the Accord that have made my decision very hard!

My Argument: Assuming both cars have the same OTD price, why should I get the Stinger if the Accord is quicker 0-60, better gas mileage, and slower depreciation??

Here are my pros and cons. Please tell me what you think!

Stinger 2.0T Premium
0-60 --- 5.9 seconds
MPG --- 22/29 - 25 Combined
Remote Start --- Extra Cost & Extra fob
Keyless Entry --- Press button on handle
Shift knob --- I don't like it (GT2 is nicer)
Front seats --- Just heated (2018)
Rear seats --- Enough legroom
Depreciation --- Unfortunately, its a Kia
Trunk --- Liftback with more cargo space
Design --- Super sexy!

Accord 2.0T Touring
0-60 --- 5.7 seconds
MPG --- 23/34 - 27 Combined
Remote Start --- Included in price & same key fob
Keyless Entry --- Sensor on back of handle (don't have to press button)
Shift knob --- I like the idea of pushing a button to put it in drive
Front seats --- Heated and Ventilated
Rear seats --- Heated and more spacious
Depreciation --- It should hold its value pretty well
Trunk --- Decent size but liftback is cooler!
Design --- Decent and sharp, but no where near the Stinger

I drive a lot for work, about 18k miles a year (If I didn't drive that much I would have already gotten the GT!)

Sound system? - Not high priority, not really into blasting music.
Sunroof? - Both have sunroof
Warranty? - Stinger definitely has better warranty, but does a Honda really need one?
Handling? - Definitely Stinger!
Launch Control? - Does the 2.0 have that?
Rarity interest? - Definitely a good point, and adds value to me. But it kind of makes me feel like I'm not focusing on the true value of the cars.
FUN? - Stinger!

Ok simple answer is 3.3 GT lol
But in my opinoin the accord is a more 2.oh platform. With no hate or disrespect to 2.0 stinger owners out there. Personally you get a better feeling car with kia, but that said it's up to you ultimately to test drive both and get a feel for what parts you like and what parts you dont... the torque and smooth ride of my gt1 sold me.. time to make a big decision!

If I am not mistaken, the reported technical problems pertaining to drivetrain et al can mostly be attributed to the 2.0 version. Sexy or not, for peace of mind and reliable transportation, I'd choose the Honda. Sometimes getting to work is more important than having fun. If you are retired and have another couple of vehicles to fall back on, like me & others here, the selection criteria could be different.

You are right .. and because of the Problems i was looking for an alternative car..
3.3 was no Option (Costs for my way to work is just too high)
i30 Fastback N - smaller, no 360, no automatic (Drive already Manual and want to Switch now)
Other Cars that i think are beautiful, have Lower tech, configuration needs Long Time and in the end the car is more expensive...
I wanted a car that is not Seen on every corner .. i like rare Cars and the style Outside... i want something i can look back when i get out of it

So.. i Hope my ordered 2.0 will have no Issues - my Testcar had almost none.. for me it Must Be the 2.0 stinger, even if it’s the worst thing i can Imagine, not getting to work because of an issue

I actually looked at the Accord a bit before getting my GT. Nice car. It rides well. Has plenty of power for everyday driving. Ton of features. Its a smart choice for sure. But really what bummed me out is that while I was there test driving it, an 80 year old lady took an identical one for a test drive. It really hurt that car for me and reminded me how common it is. The stinger is unique, and that was an important criteria for me. The Accord is the smart choice. The stinger is probably the more "fun" choice, even though it's slower. I can't vouch for the 2.0 though. Never driven it.

I definitely understand about the 80 year old lady! I have been driving a base 2010 Camry LE for the past 8.5 years. They are everywhere! And when I started shopping, I only saw the Camry and went across the street to see the Accord.

The uniqueness in the Stinger is definitely attractive. However... I did see an older African American lady step out of a nice Black Stinger.

Yes. All Stingers have LC (so we are told by owners here who have confirmed).

Baby Boomers seem particularly attracted to the Stinger. Not sure why. Maybe Albert Biermann in the brochure at the wheel with his grey hair? He looks "mature".

The Accord is quite a common car and for me, I wasn't overly impressed when I went to check out cars in preparation to turn in my Volvo S60 with a 2.0T engine. I liked the car a lot and we didn't have too much problems with it, but with the new bodystyle coming out and the value dropping I figured I would look around. A5 was my planned purchase since I like the hatchback look since I saw it years before it was introduced here in the states. Then the Stinger came out and the GT was a great drive, the 2.0T was ok and I figured based on my commute, I should go with it but the tires on the car made so much noise I was turned off from it. I took a final test of both a 3.3T and the 2.0T in August, the 2.0T is tossable and can be more fun with the speed limits in my area, the 3.3T puts you way over it when you put your foot down. I felt more comfortable in the 3.3T so I went for a GT2 and got a great deal at the end of August.

If you like driving and spend a lot of time on the road, the GT versions will probably be a good choice for you. I'm about the same with mileage for the year but a lot of times I'm traveling out of state or taking long vacations so the car is parked and that lessens the miles some for the past few years. Yeah, I'm filling up more than I was with the hybrid but when I'm not going crazy on the accelerator the economy isn't too bad. If you have lots of traffic, it's gonna suck, highway is much better. Plus with the deals they have going on now, you can get a good price on a 2018 GT, GT1 or GT2. A few folks have mentioned some issues with the 2.0T so if that is your only choice, you can get one but might have some issues or you could go with the Accord if you like it more.

So in conclusion, get a Stinger if you like driving and get the GT trim. The Accord is a good car, just not something I would prefer. Then again, the Optima 2.0T SXL would also be a good choice. Have you tried that one?

Based on the comparisons you've shared, it seems like the Honda has the advantage for you and your preferences.

Which car did you enjoy test-driving more? Hopefully you've driven both.

Sometimes you have to go with your gut. I've owned Hondas and had zero problems with them. But we each have our own mental 'priority list' when it comes to cars and their features that we most value. Based on what you've posted, you're almost sounding like you're talking yourself out of the Honda: don't. It's your $ and your car.

If you will only consider the Stinger 2.0T, I have to be honest I would probably go with the Accord. That said, you should really consider the Stinger GT with the 3.3TT. The 2018 GT's can be had for not much more than the Stinger 2.0T and is a completely different car performance and fun wise. The Accord is a nice car and you should go with that if you just need a good, reliable, comfortable car - thing is they are everywhere and pretty bland, not much fun. If you want something fun and unique - you should check out the Stinger GT, it's an amazing machine and an even better value! You can get in a decently equipped GT in the low to mid 30's if you negotiate well, which I truly feel is equivalent to cars twice that price (think Audi S5 Sportback), plus you get twice the warranty in the Stinger GT. It's a no brainer if you want a performance sedan, that said if you are happy with the Accord it would be a great car as well.
