Sunset Yellow Discussion

I'm on day 44 after signing the buyback papers and submitting them...still waiting. Mine had no GAP or Service contract, and wasn't a lease buyout, so it was pretty straight forward. Will let you know when they finally get this done.

Awesome...i am mostly interested in the actual surrender day...who/what/how etc. I was very surprised to hear a third party would be involved but do like it nonetheless. The third party is not mentioned in the letter but was discussed on the phone.

It should be the same folks they use for the lease returns. A company called AIM.

It is pretty straight forward and takes about 15 - 20 minutes. I had an inspection done last week on a Genesis I am giving back. It was painless and to be honest, I preferred it to handing the car over to some salesy yahoo at the dealer who would have a financial incentive in finding "issues" with the car.

Agreed on the dealer having incentive to "find" stuff. I am all for non-biased opinion. I dont recall AIM being mention. I think the lady on the phone said Moorely or Morrey but wasnt certain. I will call and get those details before signing just to be sure.

hmm, I was told nothing about this but in the letter it did say it would be inspected. No biggie... still got the new car smell in mine.

I submitted my initial paperwork this past weekend. Not going to bother with a repaint so waiting for the official response for buyback or trade. I was hoping I’d feel confident that they fixed the paint process for recent builds and do a trade for a ‘19, but I’m not there yet.

well the car is back and i'm happy with the way it turned out. I'm not saying its perfect but at least i know the paint will not randomly chip off.IMG_4838.webp IMG_4846.webp

Very nice...I am curious to see when this is all said and done how many keep and how many go. Could be much less than 400 on the road when all done. I do regret that part. Unfortunately, too many items pushing me into buyback.

Not sure if we'll lose Sunset Yellows in circulation. My guess is Kia will repaint and sell as used vehicle. I'm on day 1 of repaint, figuring 30-60 days to go...

Day two for me. It doesn’t get any easier.

I can vouch for that.

Mine went in for paint on 8/16. I stopped counting days at 30 and slowly started slipping into a mild depression when they painted it with the wrong primer. I was supposed to get it back last Friday, then yesterday, now Friday again.

I am starting to see a trend...

I dropped mine off about 3 weeks ago and was told it might be done around the 15 th here.. so let’s hope it turns out ok. Just ordered new rims and tires for winter as well

Id imagine they they will repaint and sell the buybacks...however, they are taking large hits so not certain if financially viable to do so. With tax alone they are paying more than the $5k goodwill they would have paid me to keep it. Add my other options like clear bra and tint AND cost to repaint and they will never recoup the losses on a resale with 10K plus miles. I will certainly try to keep track of my VIN to see where she ends up.

Maybe ill turn around and lease it again this time with bonus cash applied and get an even better deal in the end!!!

Someone began a vin list for the 400 US Sunset Yellows. I wonder imwhat came of it.

@BallsAwesome I started the list you speak of, however, no one would contribute to it, so it didn't get very far. However, I did identify quite a lot of VINs.
Here's the link, it looks like we had 2 contributors over all...:D

KIA said they would not reimburse the $2k I spent with on painting the decklid, tailgate, front/rear bumpers and rockers. This goes against what I've heard first hand, elsewhere, and initially KIA gave me the impression they would be paying for it. Anyone else have experience with this, or have had KIA reimburse them? If so I would be interested to hear about it. Otherwise, I would consider the buy back, not my preferred choice. I'm extremely disappointed with the end result as I'm around $7k in on parts & paint for my car atm.

@Keith Ruff @BallsAwesome @jondyer @Sabz Today at 0830 EST was exactly 4 weeks for me so far. I was told yesterday that the body shop painting will go into next week, but since the Kia inspectors are in Vegas for the annual conference, that I get to watch it sit until at least the 15th which is the first available time to get one out and inspect the car........... By then it will be 3 days shy of 6 weeks, and every dam minute of it sucks.

At this point, I would drive a baby shit green Stinger just to get back behind the wheel until mine is done....... No matter what, I won't drive anything else but a Stinger for as long as I can help it.
